Caritas - Saturday Evening [Open]

Marion came into work and made herself and Tino margaritas. Summertime was coming and that meant excuses for fruity drinks.

"It's what ships are made of," Jack said, "so they tend t'be laying around a lot."

"If you've got ships," said Minsc. "I'm more of a land person, myself."

"No trees?" Jack gave him a quick assessment. "Big strong guy like you wouldn't have a problem yanking it out of the ground, I'd imagine. Of course, walking the plank loses some of its point if you're not landing on anything when you fall off it..."

Minsc's head bobbled a little in agreement.

"Not unless there was, like...a really, really, really big chasm, nearby."

Of course, a small chasm would probably do, too, but wouldn't be nearly as fun.

"Ooooh," Jack said, grinning. "That'd work."

"Too bad there aren't any good chasms here," said Minsc, frowning slightly.

Especially since there was probably a really unsuitable joke about ladies going to waste here. Later, when his brain caught up and he thought of it, he'd assume he was just making improvements on that aspect, and that was why it took him so long.

Jack snickered. His mind totally went to someplace less suitable, and he glanced towards the barwench. "Haven't really been looking. I should get on that."

"If you find a good one," said Minsc, "let me know."

Yeah, that one wouldn't catch up with him until Monday morning.

"Definitely!" Jack said. "Especially if it turns out t' be a particularly interestin'...chasm."

"You mean..." Minsc eyed Captain Sparrow with a look between thoughtful and confused. "With treasure and stuff?"

Jack laughed. "If you want to think of it like that, aye!"

"I like treasure," reasoned Minsc, with a growing, exciting smile. "Especially if it's well-earned."

Jack's smile grew conspiratorial. "Definitely."

"And especially if you have to fight a great and terrible beast to get to it first!"

...

Jack was getting the feeling they weren't on the same metaphor. "You mean like her husband?"

Minsc never was very good at keeping up with a metaphor for very long.

He blinked.

"The chasm has a husband?"

"The really interesting ones tend to?" Jack replied.

"Huh," said Minsc, frowning thoughtfully. "And to think all this time I've just been charging into chasms with no mind to their husbands."

"That's a good way to get cleaved," Jack said, nodding.

"...I seem to have made it through okay so far," noted Minsc.

"That's very lucky for you," Jack replied.
