MCA Lobby - All Day Saturday

Rusty knew he was likely to rent out his last few empty apartments today, with all the new teachers arriving.

So he was up early, set out some refreshments and propped open the front door to hopefully entice in some new residents.

Apartment 10: Jasper Hale (pre-arranged ICly)

A long long day, and it was only mid-afternoon. Sophie had checked the yellow pages and maps first before deciding on her living space, so had a fairly good idea of what was on offer. "Good afternoon? I'd heard you had vacancies here."

Rusty smiled. "I do. But only a two bedroom."

"Oh, that's perfectly fine." Sophie smiled pleasantly, and took her identification -- perfectly legal, thank you, Hardison-- out of her purse. "I'm Sophie Devereaux, I'll be teaching up at the school for the next couple months. What floor is it on?"

"Second floor," Rusty said. "Or third floor. Lady's choice."

"Second floor, then," Sophie said with a smile. "Do I need to fill out a credit application? Or place a deposit?"

"First and last month's rent," Rusty said, giving a return smile. "And no application, but there is some paperwork to fill out."

He handed her a packet with a few pages of information.

"Right then, Mr. Ryan?" Sophie checked the information pages, then smiled at him. "Anything I should know about this place before I move in, about my neighbors, or the local delivery places, or any random acts of construction or piping failure?"

"Call me Rusty," he said. "Well, I'm assuming you're newly arrived? I'll warn you that this place is very odd."

"Rusty," Sophie said, letting her smile warm up a fraction. "And... I had some idea of that." She paused. "Tell me, do large pink bubbles often land in the middle of picnics and discharge teachers here?"

"That's a new one to me," Rusty said. "But we've had zombie invasions, weird flying things attack, and hot chocolate flowing from the taps."

"... at least that last one sounds pleasant," Sophie said a little weakly. "Flying things?"

"Yeah, I stayed inside," Rusty said. "Every now and again dangerous things happen around here, but there are a lot of crazy people who like a good fight."

Rusty obviously was not one of those people.

Neither was Sophie. "Wonderful. Really. Splendid." She took a breath and gave him wide-eyes look. "Do you know, I think I'll go up to my apartment and have a nice, contained nervous break-down now. If it's all the same to you."

Rusty nodded. "You need help with your bags? And, if you want, feel free to stop by later for a drink."

"That's all right, most of my things are coming later," Sophie said, rubbing her forehead. "Although I may be taking you up on that drink soon." She gave him her best brave smile. "Thank you again, Rusty."

"You're quite welcome," he glanced at the paperwork, "Ms. Devereaux. My door is always open if you need anything."

It was a pretty good thing that Rusty was up early, because Jasper was arriving pretty early himself, hoping to get to the island and into his apartment before too much of the nice weather set in. He took a moment to verify his location before finding the man who looked like he was in charge.

"...excuse me," he said, "I"m here about an apartment?"

"I've got some apartments," Rusty said. "But the only thing not spoken for is a two bedroom."

"I think we've talked about a previous arrangement," he said, nodding. "Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Jasper Hale. I think this is the right place?"

"Oh, yes, Mr. Hale, I have your paperwork here," Rusty said. "I'm Rusty Ryan. Let me get your keys for you."

He found an envelope labeled 'Hale' and handed it over.

Jasper was incredibly grateful for the foresight of the keys being in an envelope; it greatly lessened concerns about accidentally grazing his unnaturally cold fingers against Rusty's. "Thank you; I'll get to moving my things in right away."

"Need a hand?" Rusty offered. "You're up on the fourth floor."

Jasper tried not to be amused, but it was difficult to keep the grin from his face. "I think I'll be okay," he said, "but the offer's appreciated, all the same. I don't have much stuff, anyway, especially since I've only leased the place for the summer."

Rusty nodded. "Great, well, if you need anything, feel free to stop by."

Jasper nodded back, smiling a little. "Thanks; I'll keep that in mind. But I have confidence that you won't find me to be much trouble at all."

"Good, I like people who aren't much trouble," Rusty said.

Current residents are welcome to stop by and chat.

Feel free to meet some new folks here. Also, I'm hoping to have a BBQ on the roof in a few weeks for all the residents.
