When Amber came into work she immediately went for the food section of the store and began setting up a display of SPAM. It was cheap and new students liked cheap. Her logic was entirely sound.

Haley was the kind of person that liked to know where everything was in town, so she was making it a habit to wander into random stores on her lunch break. She figured after a month or so, she would know this place like the back of her hand.

Today, she wandered into Turtle & Canary. A bit curious by the SPAM sale, she briefly wondered how SPAM could be any more cheaper than it already was, but was also kind of tempted to indulge herself with a can or two. She could eat anything, but fried spam with a little rice on the side was secretly one of her favorites.

SPAM would definitely be a violation of her current junk food policy though.

"Hi, can I help you with anything?" she asked after noticing the girl.

"Uh...sure. You think I should stick to my junk food policy, or give in to the SPAM?" Haley knew the girl probably didn't mean it like that, but she was indecisive and her lunch break was only so long.

"That totally depends on your junk food policy," she replied. "What kind of policy is it? Like... junk food only on the weekends, only as a snack after a very healthy dinner, only during that time of month..." Amber could ramble forever and she usually said exactly what was on her mind.

"Well, I just try to avoid the really bad stuff like ice cream, chocolate, and all that. I'll occasionally give in to chocolate when I have cramps, but otherwise, I don't really eat junk food." That was why she considered gymnastics a bit of a masochistic sport. She worked out all the time and she still couldn't eat junk food without being 'out of gymnastics shape'.

"I would, I just can't risk losing my muscle definition or limberness. Even if this is sort of a break for me."

"Okay, my next question would be just how much do you like SPAM? I eat junk food all the time so my answers might be biased towards myself," she grinned.

"Fried with rice, I'd have to say it's pretty high up there." Haley admitted with a grin of her own.

"I would totally give in to the SPAM then, seriously. You can always work out like a maniac afterwards? And if you do cave, I would go for seconds and thirds, you know? Go all out and eat as much as you want; get the craving out of your system." She nodded. It was sound logic, yes.

"See, I don't understand why I can't have that reasoning. I can handle big decisions, but the small stuff leaves me completely bewildered for some reason or another." Haley shook her head. "Thanks."

Amber grinned wide. "No problem! I'm Amber Atkins by the way and I'm the opposite. My big decision making takes forever oh my god."

Elspeth didn't have any lessons today, so she went into town. She stepped into Turtle and Canary and looked around at all the odd items on the shelves - and the odd shelves, and odd lanterns. She tried to look like it was all very ordinary to her, not wanting to appear as some kind of country cousin. But she did have to ask, "What is a 'Squishy'?"

She wore a long-sleeved tunic over a long skirt, so it would likely be obvious that she was Not From Around Here.

Amber smiled at her. "It's an icy flavored sort of drink. Want to try one? All new Fandomites get their first one for free." She was sure Turtle wouldn't mind.

"Thank you, I would like that," Elspeth smiled. She looked at the flavors. "What is a 'red jello'?"

If she'd ever had jello, she wouldn't be asking that question. Amber held up a finger. "One second." She skipped around the counter, down a particular food aisle, and grabbed a single cold cup of red jello. Skipping back, she grabbed a spoon from a stash she kept behind the counter, and extened jello and spoon to her newest customer. "This is red jello and it's awesome. Try it?"

Amused, Elspeth accepted the spoon and took a bite. It was good, if a bit odd. Sweet, with a flavor she couldn't identify and a gelatinous texture. She gave the jello a puzzled look. "It's good," she said. "What is it made from?"

"Um, gelatin." Yep. "I'm Amber Atkins by the way. And there are tons of flavors of jello. I just happen to like red."

"I'm Elspeth of Valdemar," Elspeth said. "How is 'red' a flavor? Is it made from a fruit?"

She giggled. "Okay. There's several kinds of red. Raspberry, watermelon, cherry, strawberry, just to name a few. The one I handed you is strawberry."

Elspeth took another bite of the jello. "I suppose the strawberries here may be a bit different from the ones at home," she said.
