Guilty as Charged - 5/29 - Late Afternoon

The walk to Guilty as Charged was more difficult than usual with the alligators and their unfortunate habit of spitting goldfish. In fact, the only reason Haley figured she avoided getting bit was because she was on wheels and she had fast reflexes to avoid them. Otherwise, she was sure it wouldn't have been pretty.

When she arrived at the shop, Haley figured that she probably wouldn't get any customers today with all the craziness, but she opened up anyway.

Lounging in her chair behind the counter and eating a crushed up bag of ramen as the hot option on her water cooler was broken, she was sort of dreading the walk home.

Yes, believe it or not, ramen is still edible even if it isn't cooked.

Outside, there were troopers shooting alligators.

And there was Daisy poking her head into the shop real quick. "Everything all safe and secure here?" she asked, glad to see someone alive (even if she was eating ramen) behind the counter, instead of someone half disfigured by bitey goldfish.

And no alligators inside. Also good.

Haley looked to the door as soon as she heard the bell on it ring. "Uh...as safe and secure as ever unless those...things have somehow acquired opposable thumbs." Then, she would be in trouble. "They haven't, right?"

Daisy took a second to peek back out at the gator the troopers were currently taking down.

"Nope!" she said brightly when she was back. "Good and clear, there. You think you'll be able to get back home again?"

"Yeah, I'm really not looking forward to it though. I prefer walking the street when there aren't any goldfish spitting creatures out." Haley admitted with a bit of a frown.

"I'd like to think most people would, ma'am," Daisy said with a nod. "We can provide an escort for you if you think you might like the help," she offered, because she believed very strongly in the protect part of the whole serve and protect bit.

"I wouldn't want to drag you away from the more important stuff." Haley said with a nod. Even though, she kind of did want to take her up on that offer. You know, even if the idea of her walking with a law enforcement officer without handcuffs on was kind of hilarious.

"The most important thing," said Daisy, "is ensuring the safety of the people of this town. It'd be no trouble at all."

"I guess if you don't mind..." Haley agreed. "Just give me a minute to close up?" She asked before leaving her ramen and coke on the counter top and moving to grab the keys and her skateboard from the back.

"Like I said," Daisy nodded, glad to see the ramen and pop abandoned. She was doing two good deeds in one, look at that! "That's what we're here for."

She nodded once more before locking up the register and throwing the rest of the broken up ramen away, figuring she would just make real food when she got home to help with the rest of her appetite. "Alright, thanks. I appreciate this." A beat. "I'm Haley by the way." She said with a hand extended.

"Detective Constable Day," Daisy said, taking the hand with a shake. "Happy to help. And those two out there with the big guns are ~~Handwavy Name A~~ and ~~Handwavey Name B."~~

"Nice to meet you." Haley said before opening the door carefully and holding it for Daisy. "Should we go now? I mean, everything is pretty much closed up with the exception of the door."

"Ready when you are," Daisy nodded, taking a second to reload her gun before filing out to join the two troopers. She quickly, without a second's hesitation, supplemented their current strike with a shot toward the alligator, and a few more and it finally lumbered over to a stop with a groaning sound. Daisy nodded. "Looks clear for a second. Let's go..."

And then remembered one important element, "Where are we going?"

Good one, Day.

"MHA. It's on..." She always forgot the street name, which was kind of sad considering there weren't many streets on the island and she only lived on that one. Haley was just the kind of person that remembered how to get there by actually going, instead of using street names and all that.

"Actually, I'm not sure where it is. I'm kind of awful with directions."

"Thunderbird Lane," Daisy said with a faint grin, cocking her head in its direction before starting to move. "This way. That's one's easy; it's where I live, too."

"Right. Thunderbird Lane." Haley repeated with just a hint of an embarrassed smile as she quickly locked the door behind them and stepped out into the street.

"Which floor are you on?" Because she had only met another one of her neighbors.

"Fourth," Daisy said, nodding and, suddenly, "Left! Nine forty-five!"

The troopers responded immediately, turning their guns and shooting at an alligator that Daisy had just spotted. Their volley of shots was followed by a few smart ones from Daisy until the thing stopped.

And then, as if just continuing the conversation uninterrupted by alligators, she added, "Apartment 11."

Haley was a bit surprised when she suddenly shouted, but she recovered in a moment's time.

"The fact that I haven't met you yet is kind of sad in that case." A beat. "I'm in 12."

"You don't tend to blow things up, do you?" Haley asked carefully, remembering what Loki had told her when she first came in to the building but not wanting to offend her at all.

"...Loki told you about the oven, didn't he?" asked Daisy, unable to help chuckling. "And I think it's sadder that we have to meet like this. I've been an awful neighbour," to some... "and typically it's a bad sign if I meet someone first on the job..."

"Yeah, he didn't explain though; he said I should let you tell me the story. No pressure though." Haley said with a grin.

"Now, when you say bad sign, you mean...?"

"That usually when I meet people on the job," said Daisy with a grin, "I'm escorting them to a cell, not their apartment. And the only reason Loki isn't explaining that story is because it means admitting he was wrong."

"See, for some reason, my mind was going down a completely different, somewhat superstitious road." Haley shook her head. "I guess I was just trying to avoid thinking about the possibility of being handcuffed again." Handcuffs sucked.

"Anyway, how was Loki wrong?"
