The Gig, Sunday

Yesterday had been frustrating at times, but in the end things had worked out really well- especially as far as Firekeeper's stomach was concerned, those had been some excellent french fries.

So Firekeeper and Blind Seer were in a good mood as they opened up the Gig and did their chores for the day, telling the horses of their 'adventure' outside Fandom as they did so.

"Tahiri? Oh! You're Ben's Cons-- uhh, girlfriend. Hello!" Karla wasn't entirely certain how appropriate girlfriend was, especially since it was a new word, but he'd said things were awkward, not over. "I am very pleased to meet you," Karla said, smiling. "And more than a little envious of your footwork."

Karla can't read narrative, true. Just one more way we're all inferior to Deadpool.

Tahiri's eyebrow quirked slightly when she caught the correction, then decided she wasn't sure she wanted to know. "Don't be. I'm not that good yet," she demurred. "Good to meet you. Do I want to know what he's been saying about me?"

"He first mentioned you during a conversation on the roof," Karla said, skirting the contents of the actual conversation. And the date. "But he's mostly spoken of you when he was telling me some about the Jedi." Which was mostly true. "And his voice grows warm and fond when he speaks of you." Also mostly true.

"Just as long as it's not anything bad, I guess." She chuckled uncertainly; that unobjective streak of hers meant it wouldn't even occur to her to ask about those details anyway.

Heh. Karla's smile grew a little weak. Somehow, she felt that 'Well, sorta, but it relates to your future so I can't really say much, plus he's mentioned you guys are having some issues' would go over like a jhinka at an Eyerien celebration.

That is, badly.

Fortunately, circumstances proved such that she didn't have to come up with a response to that. "Hell's fire, Mother Night, and may the Darkness be merciful!" Karla gasped. "You have two psychic scents!"

It was Tahiri's turn to have her expression falter, but only for a second, and she nodded tersely. "You can tell?"

Karla was a bit busy gawking, but she nodded anyway. Which then brought Tahiri's scars to her attention. "Related to those?" she asked bluntly. Then winced. Sometimes even Karla realized that she was being...well, Karla.

"I ask because I'm a mind-Healer and a regular Healer," she amended. It was easier to explain than explaining Black Widows and their particular skill-sets.

Hey, Tahiri was pretty blunt herself sometimes. It all worked out.

"Related, yes." There was a note of caution in Tahiri's voice. "It's kind of a long story."

"If you have the inclination, I have the time," Karla said instantly.

Some things were more important that horse riding.

"...And in my culture, such things are handled with absolute discretion and honesty," she added. "Though, if you'd prefer not to say, or would prefer not to say here I won't push or pry. But...I might be of assistance."

"No, I think I can trust you," Tahiri answered. "I don't know if it's something I'm up to talking about right now, but I promise, I'll give you the whole story."

It was an option, and even though she didn't want to invest too much hope into it yet, what looked like a promising one.

Karla nodded. "That's fair. Such things can be difficult to discuss. Though, I've often found they're easier to talk to with a stranger, since you don't have to worry about me judging you, or things changing between us, you know?"

She leaned a little closer to Tahiri and stage-whispered "I also have wine and chocolate. I've found both help with the talking."

"Chocolate?" Really, that was enough of a selling point on its own. Tahiri managed a crooked grin. "I'd like a different perspective on the whole thing, too," she added. "Maybe you'll notice something I'm missing."

"Probably," Karla said, nodding. It wasn't simple arrogance. "I spent years training in this field. I lived with the coven until a little over a year ago. I don't know how much help I will be, but I will be of help."

If nothing else, there was always the potion she'd mentioned to Ender a few days ago. She hadn't expected the need to brew it, but she could if it were necessary.

"She hasn't been too much trouble lately," Tahiri said carefully, one hand going to her forehead; Riina objected to the description, but only as a very faint grumble in Tahiri's mind. "But when she is, well . . . it can be a problem."

"Whenever you would like, I'd be happy to speak with you," Karla said, eyes full of understanding. "I'm certain I can convince my roommate to be elsewhere, if you did not wish to speak of it in your own room."

[Sorry. Couldn't resist. I think I'm funny.]

"I'm pretty much free Wednesday and Thursday," Tahiri said after a moment. "I can call you, or something?"

[[If you hadn't made the joke, I was gonna. ^_^]]

"I'm free both days," Karla said. "And my number is ~~handwavy.~~" She looked Tahiri directly in the eyes. "And if something happens before then, call me. I mean it; I don't say these kinds of things to be polite. Hellfires, there's very little I say to be polite."

Karla couldn't help but assume that's what had gotten her in Practical Etiquette. Stupid Saetan.

"I will," Tahiri promised, once she'd gotten Karla's number keyed into her comlink.

"Great. I'll talk to you soon, then, I hope," Karla smiled. "But if you'll excuse me, I've got to see a wolf about a horse."

Only in Fandom was that the kind of statement you could hear without batting an eye.

"Thanks again," Tahiri said, clearly meaning it. "Have fun."

In some parts of Kaeleer, too.

"You're very welcome," Karla replied, also quite sincere.
