The Beach, Tuesday Evening

[intraspective]

Ino had decided that, rather than stick around the campfires tonight that she wanted to a) go swimming and b) enjoy the night sky.

And a wee tiny bit of it counted as c) training too. Swimming could totally be classed as training, and no Ino didn't really care that maybe swimming all by herself wasn't the smartest of ideas as the sun slowly went down. Her towel, her phone, and her notebook-with-a-pen were laid out on the beach, as well as her distinctive sandals.

She'd get out in a bit, dry off, and watch the stars.

Jennifer was actually looking for her big sis that evening, and was actually happy to spot her having a bit of fun.

"Hey, sis!" Jennifer shouted. She padded over to where Ino's towel was. She wasn't dressed for swimming, herself.

"Hey yourself!" Ino called, waving as a wave attempted to knock her off her feet. She laughed, hair plastered to her head, and called, "You should come in! The water is nice!"

"I'm fully dressed!" Jennifer shouted back. "I'm not walking back to my cabin sopping wet!"

She laughed, though.

"Coward!" Ino carolled, slowly making her way to the beach, laughing.

"What's wrong with a bit of water?" she asked, shaking her hair out. This only made it worse, but Ino just grinned more.

"Yeah, yeah," Jennifer said. "Water's fine. Just not when I'm fully dressed. And I'm not a skinny dipper."

"You disappoint me," she said, wriggling her toes in the sand and wandering over.

To try and hug Jennifer. Just to get her a little bit wet, mwahaha.

"It's a gorgeous night for it!"

Jennifer made a little face, but she laughed. "Sis, I'm a little disturbed at the fact you want me to get naked and in the water."

Ino rolled her eyes, and laughed. "I want you to go swimming! Nothing more!"

"Okay, maybe," Jennifer said. "But I'm leaving my undies on. And if any boys come by, you have to make them go away."

"I'll totally beat them up for you!" she said, crowing with victory. "Yay!"

"I was actually looking for you," Jennifer said, pulling off her t-shirt. "I wanted to let you know I was going to be gone this weekend."

Ino blinked, dismayed.

"You're coming back, right?"

"...I'm just visiting my cousin and dad," Jennifer said, ad little surprised at Ino's reaction.

It had been a very productive and successful day for Valentine, so she was rewarding herself with a nice contemplative walk on the beach, enjoying the view of the night sky and the stars. She'd always been a fan of them, and it was nice to discover that she still enjoyed it even though she knew she wasn't looking up to try to find Ender.

She then found herself all but stumbling on the collection of things on the beach, paused, wondered who would just leave their stuff there and looked around, and that's when she saw Ino in the water. She didn't say anything, just tilted her head slightly and wondered if the other girl would notice. She wouldn't actually take off with anything, but if Ino didn't notice? She totally could have, she imagined.

Ino would definitely notice! Eventually!

And then listen to radio to track down the thief.

As it was, though, Ino treaded water and lifted one arm in wave. "Out for a walk?" Ino shouted gleefully. "Come swimming!"

She didn't know who it was yet, and that was okay.

"If I'd have known I'd be invited," Valentine said, "I'd have brought my suit. How's the water?"

"Not too bad," she said, grinning and swimming closer to the shore. "A bit cold, but you get used to it pretty quick."

A beat.

"You could always go get your suit?"

"I could," Valentine agreed, and wiggled her toes a little where she stood. "But the sand is nice, too. It's a tough decision, but the sand requires less work."

"Well," she said teasingly, "if you want to be boring about it, I suppose..."

"I just wouldn't want to usurp any of the fun from you," Valentine responded with a smirk. "You seem to have a good hold on it yourself."

"Shhh, don't tell, but I like the ocean," Ino said, grinning as she stood on the beach and shook the water off her feet futilely. "We don't live near one at home. How've you been, Valentine?"

"There's no crime in liking the ocean," Valentine said with a small smile, and she was working toeing off her shoes to at least feel the waves at the shoreline against her toes. "Especially if you're not near one where you're from. And I've been well, thanks. Being responsible by procuring another job and a TA position for the semester. What about yourself?"

That... got a shrug.

"Pretty good today," Ino said, with a laugh. "As I'm sure you can tell. Got made TA of one of my classes too. Where do you work?"

Slowly, Valentine dipped her toe to the shoreline, testing the temperature of the water before putting her foot down and stepping forward a little. "The hotel on Wednesday, and the sex shop on Fridays now. Which class are you TAing for?"

"Mythbusting," she said absently. "'Cause Tyler-sensei likes me even when I mouth off at him."

"...sex shop?"
