Dite's Decadent Delights; Friday [ 07/17 ].

Sometimes, Valentine Wiggin was just a horrible person.

Though thoroughly pleased to find herself not in the mood any more to randomly break out into song at random interjections, she felt others might perhaps miss the music in their lives and had compiled together a series of merchandise to offer to them based on that fact. Which included products driven to the tunes on your iPod, musical condoms, and rather inventive instruments.

The crap people came up with. Although, really, Valentine rationalized that at least people were using their creativity into something like this instead of more effective ways to kill off mass populations. You could get some use and entertainment out of a toy that played music, but a musical A-bomb was probably less likely to be enjoyed.

Castiel was exploring the town. Don't ask what it was about this particular store that drew him in. Perhaps it was the alliteration.

Either way, he was there, standing just inside the door way and looking around. By the look on his face, he had absolutely no idea what most of the things in the store did. Or possibly just no idea why anyone would have a whole store devoted to them.

With such...personal stock as that found at the store, Valentine was willing to give the man some space as he looked around, but the look convinced her that she should pull out the helpful shopgirl guns.

"Hi," she gave a small smile, "welcome to Dite's Decadent Delights. I'm Valentine; can I help you find anything particular?"

Castiel gave Valentine a slow, measuring look. "What is the purpose of this establishment?"

Under that look, Valentine just slowly made her smile a little bit more unassuming and kind. "Providing, for purchase, a variety of items to suited to address romantic and erotic leisurely needs," she offered. "Sir."

There; nice and clinical. Turtle would be proud.

Castiel nodded, looking around. "You cater to pleasures of the flesh."

"Well, not me personally," Valentine said, because she couldn't help it, and it never hurt to make that clear, besides, "but our products do, yes."

"It seems as though that would be . . . messy."

Valentine considered this for a moment.

"It...can be," she allowed. "But, then again, so can catering to pleasures of the stomach. If you're hoping to avoid a mess, may I suggest seeking the pleasures of the mind, instead? Short of a papercut, that's usually fairly clean."

Castiel was of the opinion that most things mankind did was messy. Unfortunately, so was most of what an angel could do with mankind.

"You're aware that there are those who profess using sex for anything other than reproduction to be a sin?"

Even coming from a world where religion was mostly frowned up, Valentine was not unfamiliar with zealots, so she was very glad to see that it didn't appear that the man had any pamphlets with him, although she couldn't be sure about hidden, concealed explosives.

She made a decision that mentioning that some actually considered it a deadly sin was probably not in her best interests.

Valentine nodded. "Of course," she said, demurely.

If questioned, Castiel would admit that, in general, zealots irritated angels. They were some of the messiest of all.

"It's a foolish thought, actually. A vanity, to think that Heaven has that much stake in how an individual wishes to use their reproductive organs." He looked around the store again. "We generally have better things to do."

But the sad fact was, Castiel didn't right now. He was bored.

"Still, this seems a bit . . . excessive."

"Well, you don't use it all at once," Valentine said with a faint smile. Hearing something that sounded like the guy wasn't about to lecture her about harlots and Jezebels made her feel a little more comfortable joking again. Although it certainly didn't pass her notice that he'd referred to Heaven as a we. "I don't know if I'd say it's excessive so much as diverse? Individuals, after all, are highly individual."

"The human body is not that complicated."

"No," Valentine said, "but the human mind is, and if we were satisfied by only what the body could do, not only would this business not be so lucrative, but human civilization would be incredibly boring to boot. Not all of us are quite confined to reaching pleasure through being grunting, sweating animals."

"So you contend that requiring technology for pleasure is a positive."

Valentine carefully considered the specificity of the question before coming up with an answer. "Requiring anything but the basics...air, water, sleep, food...isn't a positive. But I contend that having technology for pleasure available is a positive, yes. Requiring it suggests dependency, which isn't good, of course, but if you're simply taking advantage of what's available, what's the harm?"

Pause.

"Besides hellfire and brimstone, of course."

Surprisingly enough, Castiel decided not to get into Hell, just now. "But it is the taking advantage of, as you say, which leads to the dependency."

"If taken out of moderation, sure," Valentine agreed easily enough. "The same goes for anything we may desire. Desire dulls the senses, or else no one would ever get married or fat. But that's why we have to keep our senses sharpened, so that we don't fall into dependency."

Later, Valentine would be very amused that she was giving a speech on the benefits of being intellectual in the middle of a sex shop with an individual she suspected of being a part of the supernatural category here on the island.

"That is quite a scathing criticism of the institute of marriage."

Castiel did approve of marriage, after all.

"Talk to me about it when I'm not eighteen," Valentine said, "and we'll see if I still feel the same way."

Although, really, she was only seventeen, but she was saying eighteen to play things on the safe side while she was working here.

Castiel was a good several millenia old. He didn't really have much by way of a concept of human age.

"Very well."

To that, Valentine smiled a little and paused a moment before asking, "So did you just come in to have a look, or can I interest you in getting anything?"

If he came all this way, might as well, right?

"I don't believe I require any of the items you sell here."

He really probably wouldn't know what to do with them if he bought 'em. Though Jimmy might be fussing at him that it really had been quite a long time.

"I thought we already covered the part about requirement not really having anything to do with it," Valentine said, not even bothering to hold her grin back now.

It wasn't easy to fluster an angel. Valentine was getting close.

"Yes, well. I may find . . . ecstasy in other ways."
