Dite's Decadent Delights; Friday [ 09/11 ].

Typically, Valentine didn't bring her laptop with her to Dite's shop; there were usually more than enough things to keep her entertained and distracted from her tendency to browse, but today was an exception. To her credit, though, she was working on writing something, but as to what it was, she wasn't about to tell anyone.

She was not about to neglect her dedication for featuring thematic devices. Quite the opposite, in fact. For today, on display at the counter, she had the Sinulator, a device that you plugged into your computer so that someone else, over the magicks of teh Intrawebz, could control the vibe and movement of it. There was even a name involved in the development of such products: teledildonics.

The Internet: not only for porn, but taking it to new interactive levels. It was beautiful, really.

Dite's Decadent Delights is open!

It had been a long time since Jack bothered Valentine outside class. If finding her on Friday meant going to the shop that still made his Victorian ears go a little pink -- he'd call that yet another piece of his education.

"Hello," he said, before the Sinulator grabbed his attention. "Do I even want to ask what that is?"

He understood the basic shape. The wires were the confounding bit.

Modern times were confusing.

"You're joking," was what Jack said first, and more or less automatically. "It's like making love to someone from a distance? I suppose I'm supposed to say technology is amazing, but that just sounds uncomfortable."

If she hadn't called him primitive, even as a joke, he wouldn't have called her bluff.

"Fine," he said. "Show me. I live to learn."

"Always," he said curiously as he dug into his pocket for the thing, then placed it in her hand. "I take it you need it."

[NIGHT.]

Jack mock-sighed to show how very put out by this suggestion he was. "Oh, I suppose," he said. "On my end, I just hold the device?"

Public comm.

It really was a surprisingly long time, and Jack had gotten bored of looking at the thing and was flipping through a magazine by the time the thing started vibrating its way across the counter.

He let out a surprised yelp at the noise (and was grateful no one was there to hear it), then picked it up. Curiously, he held it against the palm of one hand, then ran it up his arm.

The thing tickled.

"It skittered about like a not-terribly-bright toy," Jack said, with half a smile. "I can't testify to its principle use."

Jack rolled his eyes. "I know what it is, I just meant I couldn't speak to it personally." Grow up, Valentine.

He looked at the device. "The wriggles were quoting Shakespeare?" If he'd known Morse code, he might have understood how, but Samuel Morse was American. Telegraphs in his world used a different system.

"... hunh," Jack said. "For -- signalling? We have something like that for telegraphs."

Jack considered this, then: "Spell my name. Not with the vibrator, just -- how would it sound?"

He would have asked for hers, but hers was long.

Jack repeated the rhythm. "I'm disappointed you didn't say the beeps," he joked. "Yours?"

He so would, was the thing.

Jack had to laugh at that grin. "Oh, probably," he had to admit. "I won't work too hard to convince you. So how are you, besides selling communication devices cleverly disguised as sex toys?"
