Turtle & Canary; Monday [ 09/14 ].

True to her word on radio, Turtle was having a very special sale today on dictionaries and Cheetos, forty percent off, fifty percent if you got both of them together. As she made the sign and put it up, she frowned thoughtfully in consideration of the odd sale and wondered exactly why she was putting Cheetos and dictionaries on sale, but she shrugged and went with it. If it came from the chaos that was radio reporting, it had to be a good thing, right?

And may book enthusiasts rue the day, as a thousand dictionary pages were likely to be stained with orange cheesy thumbprints.

She's actually enjoying a Chunky Monkey squishy, thinking fondly of ice cream.

Shut up. It's delicious.

Hinata was not, in fact, wearing her ever-present jacket today when she stepped into the shop and looked rather discomfited by this fact.

Sure, she owned a lot of shirts and such, but the coat was... comforting. She brightened a little upon seeing Turtle though.

"Turtle-san," she said, smiling slightly. "Good morning."

"Hinata!" Turtle smiled easily at seeing the other girl. "Hey! How's it going?"

"Well enough but for one incident," she said, almost lightly. "I have been attempting to g-get out a bit more. How have you been, Turtle-san?"

Hinata could have said it as light as a feather, but it would have still caught Turtle's attention. Her eyes widened, brows lifting. "I'm fine, Hinata, but what one incident? Everything okay?"

"It's a bit silly," she admitted, looking down at her nice and normal and definitely not a jacket shirt. "But my jacket got th-this awful rip down the side, so I can't wear it at the moment."

It was a big deal to her, yes.

"Do you have someone to mend it?" Turtle asked. "I'd offer, but I can't sew for crap. Or...ooh! Did you come in to get a new one?"

The eagerness made it very clear that Turtle could definitely, certainly, absolutely, without a doubt help with finding a new one.

"I'll write to my f-father for a new one," she said carefully, "as it has several modifications for the field but..."

Hinata looked at Turtle's eager face and felt her will sort of crumple.

"I s-suppose it wouldn't hurt if I got a different one for on-island."

"And variety is the spice of life!" Turtle said, bouncing eagerly around the counter to find Hinata's hand to lead her toward the clothing section. "You can switch it up! We can find you something new and cute!"

Her hand was easily claimed, and Hinata had to laugh softly at the enthusiasm as she was led. "Not too bright th-though?" she requested. "I don't want anything that--draws too much attention."

"Maybe something in green?" Turtle suggested easily. "That's my favorite color and it's very classy."

"You don't think it would clash with my hair? Th-Though I suppose, if it were a darker shade..." she said, considering that. "White is traditional in my family."

"But it's after Labor Day!" Turtle said. "They say you're not supposed to wear white after labor day. I have no idea why, but my mom's practically had nervous breakdowns over it before."

Hinata looked confused at that.

"Is it really so important, then?" she said, looking slightly worried. "I never th-thought that something like that might matter."

"I really have no idea," Turtle said, shaking her head. "Probably not. "Could totally break that rule. Very cute."

"It is cute," she admitted, fingering the material. "Th-Though the belt looks a bit flimsy, don't you think?"

"We could switch it out with a firmer belt?" Turtle offered.

"Th-That's true," she conceded, brightening. "I like that idea. It's very--trim. The coat."

"It'll give you a little shape!" Turtle suggested with a slight smirk. "That other coat you wore was so baggy."

"It was useful," she said, frowning a bit at that. "And comfortable both in and out of the field."

And Hinata had not been adverse to 'baggy' hiding her figure, really.

"Useful?" Turtle asked, idly considering a few other options.

"It could hold a lot," Hinata said, "and was very durable."

She considered her answer for a moment.

"I was used to it."

"I was used to long hair, too," Turtle offered up. "But sometimes it's just good for a change."

Her smile was rueful. "I th-think I would prefer my change to be slower," Hinata admitted.

"Yeah, but you can't go too slow," Turtle reasoned. "If you go too slow, you might just end up getting stuck."

"Or you start going backwards," she conceded. "I see your point."

I actually found an icon of Cheetos, and I saved it. I'm sure it'll come in handy one day.
