Turtle & Canary, Tuesday, 10/06

Didi was both sad to see Del gone again, and happy the visit had gone as well as it had. She didn't see her family as often as she might have liked -- it was interesting to see how she slipped into the big sister pattern even as a mortal.

In honor of her sister, she set up a special promotion:

Jono's fingers were getting sore from far too many attempts to play the same Bullet For My Valentine music for the past three hours. It wasn't that he liked the screaming emo music much, really. It was that the guitar solo in Tears Don't Fall was actually fun to poke at. That was his story, and he was going to stick to it.

It was his 'lunch' break now, either way, and he figured that since he didn't eat, he might as well make use of it to be social, instead.

//Afternoon, gel.// He nodded a hello as he rested his elbows on the counter. //Looks like we made it through th'weekend in one piece.//

Del certainly was a force of nature, wasn't she?

//That's quite alright. I'm quite certain that if yer had the misfortune of meeting Jubilee, yer'd never forgive me for it.//

Well, okay, maybe he was being a little harsh, there. But Lee had been a force of nature in her own right, and knowing that Jono was interested in Didi would have probably meant an interrogation of some sort, at least.

//It's a nickname,// Jono replied, shrugging faintly.

Codename. Whatever.

//Short for Jubilation Lee. And she's a bloody terror, I swear it. Cost me bloody near two-hundred quid on Chinese food on Saturday alone.//

Jono made a derisive sort of snerking sound. Yes, in his head.

//Hardly. She's practically half my size. Still a kid, in too many regards, I think. She was hell-bent on eatin' it all t'spite me.// And then he was smirking. More or less. //Th'fact that she spent most of Sunday revisiting it all more than makes up for it, really.//

The teens of Generation X were such a caring bunch. Really.

//The last school I went to,// Jono replied, still smirking somewhat.

Look, the only thing that made the expense and having to watch Lee eating for hours worthwhile was the fact that she'd suffered for it, too. He was allowed to be at least a tiny bit spiteful.

//She was in my class.// A pause. //It was a rather small class.//

Jono was urban to the core.

His face, on the other hand, wasn't.

You had to make such concessions, when people took to spitting on you in the grocery lines for being a dirty mutie. Or trying to kill you for the same.

//It was a... somewhat specialized school,// he ventured. //Run by people like me. Run for people like me. I agreed to go when I found myself quickly running out of other options, luv.//

Jack needed something to take the edge off. Grape Judas should work. "What the...?"

"But...Grape Judas?" He was a man lost.

"Because that's the flavor I like!" he whined declared. "Wait. You have Apple Peter?"

"It's the purple flavor! It's really good." What he meant was: "it's the purple flavor, it's really addictive."

"So...what does telephone taste like?"

"Okay...I'll try it. What the hell." Not like his day could be any worse...

Jack took a big gulp and made a bit of a face. "It's like plastic and pumpkin." He took another sip. "Is that copper?" Sip. "Copper." Sip. "Want some?"

Aww, Jack paid attention in grade school about sharing.
