"Oh Tino, don't you just love this movie," Adora sighed, leaning on the counter and staring adoringly at the television screen. "I hope it ends happily with a shared kiss!"

Tino responded with a pathetic cough, his forehead smushed against the bar and his eyelids fluttering in exhaustion. Someone shouldn't have come to work tonight. The draw of boobs was obviously too great to keep him away.

"The prince so wants to marry the strong and dynamic student, and yet, his accented family doesn't approve of his choice!" Another sigh. "These are the evenings I miss my prince. Do you have a special friend, Tino? One to have the sex with?"

The only answer she got was snoring. Adora smiled over at the bartender, feeling sorry for him as she draped a bar towel over his shoulders. "Sleep now, friend. I shall do the work tonight."

"Not necessarily," Jaina said. Ignore her first couple days post-breakup. "Besides, I thought having a prince made everything better in movies."

"I don't believe I've seen enough movies to be a judge, but in my life princes have led to both good times and bad," Adora shared. "Not that this will stop me from seeking out a new prince."

"Eh. That part would probably just lead to more complications for me," Jaina shrugged, not at all ready to deal with that yet. She'd just have to punctuate that with a drink.

Complications didn't sound pleasant, but Adora wasn't going to pry. "So, my friend, what has brought you here alone tonight?" Last she'd seen this one, she'd been with a crew of girls.

She felt a little silly admitting it as the reason she was here alone. "It's my birthday," she said. "Technically. Woo."

There could not have been a more sarcastic 'woo.'

"Your birthday!" Adora was amazed to discover her here all alone on such an event. "Happy Birthday to you! Are you having a party later?"

"No," she said, shaking her head, "I'm going for low-key this time. It's not really a big deal."

"Oh," Adora frowned. This was not normal, she was certain. "Growing up with the Horde, I've never had a birthday before, I was very much looking forward to it this year..."

"For others, it's a big deal," she said, a little hurriedly. "My time back home is all weird. I have two birthdays a year. It's always felt a little unfair to make a thing of it every time."

"Oh, I see," Adora said, feeling a little better. "But why do you seem so...depressed about it? Are you very old?"

"Twenty-one," Jaina said, taking another drink. "It's been a bad couple weeks. I just haven't been in much of a birthday mood. It'll pass." Or she'd repress it away, whatever.

"That is old," Adora decided, pouring herself a drink. What? She was employed by Chuck Bass, she knew about product sampling. "But not too old to have fun! I drink to you, on your birthday!"

"That is not old!" Jaina protested, and finished off her drink, pushing it forward for a refill. "I can get into bars now, besides this one, legally. My fake ID is... well, a little less fake now."

"It seems very old," Adora replied, getting Jaina a refill of her super strong drink that would put hair on the chest of men. "But then, I'm only sixteen."

"I was sixteen two years ago," she said, taking the drink.

Apparently one drink was all it took to lose that little sense-making filter.

"Two years ago," Adora repeated thoughtfully. "That is a very long two years. Will you graduate this term?"

"In May, yeah. Then I'm free from the weird place!" This was celebrated with a glass lifted in a toast. Someone was well on their way to tipsy. Okay, someone was already tipsy. Details.
