Support Services: The Perk, Friday after classes

Yes, there was an E in there again - it was getting chilly outside and Morgana had a feeling that after the past week, chocolate and whipped cream-laden drinks might help everyone's moods.

"If there is a lesson to be taken away from the last week, it's that sometimes the people our friends need to be rescued from the most is themselves," Morgana started, doing her best not to look at Arthur if he was there. "Whether it is a gremlin bite or the island affecting people, sometimes our friends go mad, and nothing can cure them but simply waiting for the effect to wear off. The problem is, if we leave people to fend for themselves, they could, in the best case, do something terribly embarrassing or, in the worst case, hurt themselves, and possibly others in the process. The question we have today is: how can we best keep our friends safe when they're out of their minds? Is it all right to lock someone in their room? To bind them to their bed if necessary?" Now she really wasn't looking at Arthur. "Should we get consent about these things beforehand, or can it be assumed that if someone comes to their senses and finds themselves bound and protected, they will forgive those who caught them for saving them from potential trouble?"

"All of you guys? Have permission to lock me in a closet or knock me out if I start acting like a danger to myself or others," Dinah said in a subdued voice. "Or just like I might elope with someone I've only been interested in for two days."

Claire approached Dinah looking rather subdued. "Dinah? Can I, uh, talk to you for a sec?"

Dinah gave her a wary-to-sheepish look, having had time to cool down now. "Yeah. Let's go over to that booth." She slid into one by the wall, and poked at the foam on her cocoa with one finger.

Claire followed, setting her own cup of cocoa down. "Look, I'm really, really sorry about this morning. I listened to radio after you left. I should have realized that there was something weird going on."

"Yeah," Dinah agreed on that part, then finally looked up to say, "I'm sorry I didn't just blurt it out. I got flustered. It was all so stupid and embarrassing, and it's going to be weird enough dealing with Sam...." She shook her head. "I just didn't want to deal first thing in the morning, you know?"

"I can't say I blame you," Claire admitted. "And I know that I've been weirdly distant since Peter's death. Going through it the first time was bad enough. This time is actually worse."

Dinah shook her head, and said, "I know it's been rough. And I know I haven't been around as much, between Jak and the play and trips home. I'm sorry for that." She took a sip of her cocoa, swallowed and said, "If I'd really been into Sam instead of stupid magic spell happy-happy-joy distraction, I would've told you. I wouldn't have kept it from you."

"You don't have to apologize," Claire said. "I mean, it's not wrong to live your life. And, well, you were right about one thing. If Sam wants to date again, it isn't any of my business. It's just weird because he's the last link I have to Peter."

"He isn't, though." Dinah shook her head, frowning at Claire. "I mean. It's not like disappears, the second you lose touch with Sam. I remember him, other people here do too, his family... Maybe the rest of us weren't as close as you and Sam were to him, but you can remember him without keeping everything exactly the same, Claire." That was a lot nicer way to say what she'd meant this morning, without being bitchy or mean about it. "It's only been a month, yeah. But you can move forward without letting go of it all."

Claire still didn't know that Nathan was alive and she wasn't about to get into a discussion about Angela Petrelli, but she realized that Dinah was right about Peter having other friends in Fandom.

"Yeah, I guess you're right," she said. "Sam just completely blindsided me, you know? Which makes sense now that I know about the spell."

Dinah made another embarrassed face and said, "Yeeeeah. We just kept getting worse, since the performance off Tuesday night, kind of feeding off each other and... I sure as heck don't want to get married! Not to anyone! I'm way too young. But I was planning it all out like it was going to happen next week. You're lucky you didn't run into me while I was nuts like that, I shoved Priestly around and he was just trying to help."

Claire's eyes got very wide. "I didn't hear the marriage talk. Good lord, you guys got hit with a doozy."

But, in an effort to make Dinah feel better, she decided to share. "You know how everyone was crazy last weekend? I thought Jack was my father. I dragged Jon to the clinic for a blood test."

"Whaa...? Ew!" Dinah grimaced, then laughed, wrinkling her nose. "Okay, that had to be bad-weird for the weekend, being sure you were dating your dad's clone. Jeeez. Have you talked to him since then?"

Re: Discussion: How to save our friends from themselves.

[identity profile] wantstocheer.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't talked to Jack, no," Claire said. "I probably should let him know that Jon and I made sure it wasn't true though. Jon thought I was crazy, but it freaked me out pretty bad."

"Fandom," Dinah said, in tones of exasperation and amusement.

A teal moose wandered past the window, blinked solemnly at them, then went on his way.

"...is occasionally funny with the traumatic."

Claire stared out the window for a moment. "Did I just see that?"

"See what?" Dinah grinned at her, and took another sip of cocoa.

"Funny, Dinah," she said with a chuckle. "So, can you forgive me for being a complete bitch?"

"Heh. If you can forgive me for stomping out like a six-year-old, sure." Dinah grinned at her, and nudged the apple fritter closer to her roommate. "Next round's on me."

"You are too kind," Claire said, grinning back and happily chomping on the fritter.

"I know I'd be more comfortable getting permission before hand." Said Robin. Not that he'd likely ever be able to restrain anyone or knock them out.
