How Clark had gotten talked into returning to the bar was not something he cared to think on for long. Let's go with Tino was pathetic and Clark could use the money.

Besides, Tino was being kind of weird and distracting with some neck pogo-stick contraption and claiming it was better than plastic surgery.

Clark wasn't asking.

That got an amused look from him, though really, what didn't get that look from him? "Adrian Ivashkov, Mondays. So Tino's the boss now, is he?"

That comment earned Tino a different sort of strange look than earlier. "Was Tino not the boss before?"

"In his own mind, I'm sure he is," Adrian replied easily. "Though he is here more than our regular boss, I'm assuming he gets paid less. Much, much less."

When Tino was done slimming down his neck, he was so gonna kick Adrian for spilling that.

"Wait a sec, if you're saying Tino's not the owner, then do I still have a job?" Pardon Clark's slow confusion.

"Chuck's the owner, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that if you want to show up and do the work, keeping your job shouldn't be a problem," he said. "I'll even put in a good word for you."

Ha, Tino, ha.

"Oh, that'd be great! Thanks, Adrian." And to think Clark had trusted Tino! "How 'bout I buy you a drink? What'll it be?"

"Scotch," he said, shooting Tino a look that was about as innocent as Adrian could possibly look, which was to say not very. "Any idea what happened to the last bartender?"

"Tino said something about her being needed back home," Clark told him, taking a moment to find the scotch before pouring a glass and sliding it to Adrian. "I've heard it's the time of year for that sort of thing."

"I bet so. People probably go home for the holidays and don't come back," he mused, already taking a drink. "A few probably go into hiding from their families..."

"Yeah, it's certainly not easy for everyone," Clark agreed, knowing how his own friends had suffered through past holidays. "Did you go home for Christmas?"

He nodded over his drink. "Had to go home, see the family, play nice with everyone I have to play nice with." Not that this was completely a bad thing. He was in no way going to talk badly about the parties. "Did you get out of here for the holiday?"

"Nope, but now that I have a job, I'm hoping to afford a portal home for Easter. Mom sent me a big care package, though." And don't get him started on the awesomeness of her chocolate chip cookies. "All I missed out on was the roast."

Just for that, Clark was going to get a ridiculous tip. Adrian could afford it. "Is it a good roast?"

"The best ever," Clark enthused. "I might be biased, but Mom's cooking's definitely better than the chef in the cafeteria."

"That wouldn't be difficult." He assumed. "That just means you can't miss out on Easter now. You might have to even eat enough for two visits."

Clark laughed at that image. "Dad already says I eat like three kids instead of one." He was a growing alien boy, cut him a break.
