The Perk, Tuesday Evening

After a handwavey morning spent jogging around the island with Bruce, Jean was so very thrilled to meet him up for coffee. It was totally a date. And he wasn't even going to try and grope her!

Probably.

Look, it happened a lot in Fandom.

She ordered the least coffee-like coffee on the menu and sipped it while thinking herself oh so mature to be drinking coffee in general.

Yeah.

[[Expecting the Goddamn Batman, but open before!]]

BRUCE IS THE BEST AT CRAMMING THINGS IN HIS CRAM HOLE.

"It's one of the biggest cities in my world," Bruce said. "But it doesn't seem to exist on most Earths. I don't understand it."

YOUR FACE IS WHAT SHE SAID.

"Really?" Bruce asked. "Gotham's not far from New York, either. How big is Bayville?"

"I guess you lucked out in meeting me. Apparently it's in New Jersey and Illinois in other worlds," Bruce said with a certain distaste. He didn't like the thought of Gotham not being where he knew it to be.

"There's not too much to know," Bruce said. It wasn't a lie so much as it was THE BIGGEST UNDERSTATEMENT EVER. "I'm an avid reader. I have a butler. And I beat up a teacher in Fight Club. AND MY PARENTS ARE DEEAAAAAAAAAAD!"

"He's actually more like a second father to me, but yes," Bruce said.

"Was it another boarding school?" Bruce asked.

"I'm becoming more aware of that all the time," Bruce said.

Bruce had pretty much figured that out during the build up. "Really?" he asked. "What kind of powers do you have?"

The fact that Bruce was mentally cursing the fact that he had never had an opportunity to figure out how to defend himself against telepaths didn't show on his face. The only positive thing here was that either Jean was respectful enough not to read people's minds or she had the world's best poker face, and he was reasonably sure it wasn't the second one.

"So you can read minds?" Bruce asked.

The mayor could read minds too? Great. Bruce's face still didn't change.

"So you have a group of teenagers with powers and you're extremely dedicated to training," Bruce mused. "Are you training to be a superhero?"

"I understand," Bruce said. She was a superhero. And that was kind of hot. He wasn't going to admit that right now, though. "With a school like that helping you, how did you end up in Fandom?"

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-01-14 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"That sounds horrible," Bruce said with some genuine sympathy. "At least this school is... friendlier to that kind of thing."
