Military Reserves, Wellspring Arms Shooting Range, Tuesday Afternoon
For the first time, it was Jak who took the first talking shift. "Hey, guys. We're in the shooting range for a reason," he said, nodding at the... well, the scenery behind him. "Some of you probably haven't used a gun before. Some of you haven't had enough practice. So we're getting some practice in today. If you don't know what you're doing, me and Triela are going to give a demonstration." This was probably the wordiest anyone was ever going to see him, so, y'know. "Practice safety in the range. Don't keep your finger over the trigger. Remember that firing any gun is going to give you some recoil, so brace yourself."
He squared his shoulders. "But I'm sure Triela'll give you the run through," he finished. "Anyway, you've got your short range," point at the shotgun, "Your long range," at which he held up his Morph Gun, blaster attachment attached, "Snipers, handguns, semi-automatics, automatics..." He trailed off. "Lots of guns." You know. To keep things simple.
Kennedy was mostly keeping her mouth shut on this one, guns and slayage not being particularly compatible activities in her experience; for today, she'd mostly be standing there looking serious, kind of daring anyone in the group to goof off so she could get up in their face about it.
Zack, on the other hand, was going to keep his mouth shut, stand there looking serious, and occasionally crack a little smile as he looked around the group. He liked people! He couldn't help it!
"Please, be sure to pay careful attention to everything you're shown today, if you're planning on handling any of the guns," he stated. "I probably don't have to tell you that, because most of you guys have a healthy respect for most weaponry, but it's important enough that it's worth stating. I'll have to give you stern looks and a lecture or something if any of you get hurt."

Re: Talk to the ... Big Loomy Figure
Zack looked maybe a little impressed as he walked up to the mayor with a nod hello.
"Thanks for letting us do this," he began. "This will go a long way in seeing to it that people don't get caught off-guard in a bad situation with a weapon they're not familiar with."
Zack didn't think that he'd ever need to fire a gun, nah. Not with that sword of his. But, you know. Other people.
[For great SP? I kinda had to. HI CABLE.]

the young puppyZack with a thoughtful expression. "And I've wanted to see the reserves at work..."He'd trained his own bunch of angry youngsters back in his time. The fact they hadn't blown each other up in a year's worth of being a militia was interesting enough.
Re: Talk to the ... Big Loomy Figure
"We're all in this for the same reason," he replied. "Or, well, a lot of reasons that kind of add up to the same one. We like it here. We don't want some crazy invasion to get the better of us. It's kind of like the closest thing to home that some of us have, you know?"
A pause. "Any thoughts on what you can see so far? It's... maybe a little less formal since Arthur left, but people are still coming, so I think we're not completely messing it up."
Re: Talk to the ... Big Loomy Figure
He considered the people gathered. "I'd say putting in a little more structure wouldn't hurt. Starting off with a few simple fighting drills never damaged unit cohesion - at the same time, you might want to think about staging a surprise attack."
Beat.
"If you clear it through the Mayor's office first, of course."
They didn't need anyone's defense systems kicking in unneeded.
Re: Talk to the ... Big Loomy Figure
"A surprise attack, huh? Like, in the middle of the week, sometime the meeting isn't actually happening, or more like we get halfway through explaining the topic for the day and then Wham! Attackers!"
.... He got a little excited over this sort of thing. Excuse him.

"And using it for something like that wouldn't be very different from the way the training room back home works," he admitted. "Honestly, I'm kinda disappointed that I didn't think of it myself."
