Chilly Boulder, Friday evening

"Ice cream is a wonderful treat. Dairy is good for you! And there's plenty of calcium! As long as you don't eat too much, of course!"

"Get candy! And sprinkles. Lots of syrup, chocolate and butterscotch! Ah! And have them mix in some cookie pieces and those bits of cake. In a waffle cone. No! A chocolate dipped waffle cone!"

Momoko rolled her eyes as she held open the door to the Chilly Boulder. "Look! It's nice that you two can finally agree on something," she looked in turn at the frilly-dressed mini-Momoko perched on one shoulder and the mini leather-clad yakuza Momoko crouched on the other. "But please stop yelling in my ears! You've been doing that all day!"

"Are you sure you can't see or hear them? Either one? They are totally loud and annoying." She looked over at Dinah, shaking her head, but grinning. Even a whole day of listening to the two mini-Momokos telling her what to do all day, giving her advice, and arguing about things that she was glad no one else could hear, wasn't annoying enough to prevent her from enjoying an evening of ice cream and fun with her friends.

Jaime laughed at Momoko. "All I see are two good looking ladies." He flashed a smile over at Dinah.

"Who are about to get treated to ice cream." Because he was awesome that way.

Dinah leaned over to smooch Jaime for that. And also because damnit, it'd been too long.

Then she grinned over at Momoko. "Sorry? No? I can only see my crazy birthday friend... but that doesn't mean I don't believe you!"

"Actually, it's no longer your birthday." Frilly Momoko piped up frowning. "You should correct her."

"Shut up!" came the responding growl from the other shoulder. "She'll get free stuff."

"Fandom is so weird. If I'm the only one to have these..." Momoko shook her head. "I hope you brought enough money, Jaime! I'm going to have to eat a lot to drown out the arguing."

"I brought enough money," Jaime assured her. "And something else too."

But that something else was a SURPRISE.

Dinah was rummaging in her purse-slash-totebag for Momoko's gift (http://www.shopthebay.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=11455&brand=MB&src=CI&eng=shop&cid=SM5000&referer=http://www.google.com/search?q=silk+jacket+women&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a) now, as well as the pink quartz earrings she'd picked up in Santa Cruz, and said, "Haaaappy late birthday!" as she pulled it out of her bag.

"Eh?!" Momoko accepted the unexpected present with glee. "Thank you, Dinah! I can open it now, right?" Like she could wait?

"I love the earrings! Whoah!" She pulled the jacket out and tried it on. "This is awesome! I have the perfect blouse, but... Ah! And it's silk? We so need to go shopping for a skirt for this!" She hugged Dinah. "Thank you!!"

"Mmmm," Karla said, eying her sundae, covered in whipped cream, nuts, cherries, and chocolate sauce. "This was a brilliant idea." Never mind that it was her idea. Ice cream was always a good idea. She ate a spoonful, chocolate ribbon surprise, and grinned at Raven. "Wasn't this a good idea?"

A few bites later, she set down her spoon and gave Raven an expectant look. "All right then, darling, spit it out. What happened in Gotham?"

Raven had mint ice cream, with lots of hot fudge and whipped cream, but she set her spoon aside to give Karla her full attention. "I spent several days in the city, just exploring it," she said. "But Wednesday night I went to a church to just find some solace and think, and a group of people came to me there and demanded that I go with them. There were four of them, and they each boasted of their powers to me."

"Of course," Karla sighed, poking at a frozen strawberry. "Because having a few days of peace and quiet is apparently too much to ask for. So who were these people and what did they want?"

Ponies? Maybe they wanted to give Raven a pony?

"There was a woman who called herself Phobia, who wore a very odd green bodysuit with black markings and a very dramatic cape," Raven said, mimicking the disco collar with her hands. "And a man who could open rifts in space to transport others who went by the name of Warp, and another man who claimed to use science and magic to cause pain with fetish dolls, and a creature of pink lava. And later there was a giant gorilla and a disembodied brain. They wanted to know something about Sebastian but I did not understand what they were asking."

"I don't even know what part of that to address," Karla said. "In fact, I'm almost certain I didn't hear that correctly."

"They called themselves 'The Brotherhood of Evil,'" Raven said solemnly. "I told them that was a ridiculous name."

Ooooo! A Karla with ice cream! Dinah started to sneak up on her.... sneak sneak sneak sneak... "I'm baaaack!"

Karla whirled around, nearly whipping her spoon across the store in the process. "Dinah!" she gasped, grinning. "Yay! You're heeeeeeeeeeeere!" She leapt up, toppling her chair, to pounce on her friend and attempt to hug the life out of her.

After the good-bye with Priestly, Dinah was even more grateful for the friends she still had around. "Hey, you. So glad to be back." Huuuug! "Missed you!"

In case Dinah had missed that or something.

"When did you get back? Recently, right?" Because if Dinah'd been back for a while and Karla hadn't heard...

Roy was a physically active teenage boy still trying to gain back those last five pounds he'd dropped last year. So basically, a bottomless pit. He didn't need a little angel or devil to tell him to get ice cream, even if he didn't know who else was at the shop.

"Roy!" Dinah greeted him with glee. Also, ice cream almost on his shirt as she bounced over to offer a hug. "It's Momoko's day-after-birthday, we're celebrating!"

"Dinah!" Roy said as he hugged her. "Hey, this is a surprise!" Although he didn't have to ask why she was here, because she'd just told him. "Welcome back!"

Dinah hugged back, careful that ice cream didn't end up in his hair, either. "Did you get the souvenirs I sent you?" she asked, leaning back to grin at him. "C'mon over and wish her happy returns. Anything new in the transformations or galactic weirdness department?"

She could get the ice cream in his hair, he didn't care. "I did!" he confirmed. "You guys had a wild time, huh?" he asked, then said, "Not for me, so much, but some people have, I think. I've had a boring summer." He sounded like this was novel and fun.

"Hi Roy!" Momoko waved cheerily with her non-spoon hand. "It's a perfect evening for ice cream, right?"

"It is indeed!" Roy agreed. "I heard you had a birthday! Sorry I missed it, but, a late 'happy birthday' is better than never, right?"

"Thank you!" She grinned. "And anytime you get a 'happy birthday' is a good one! And a belated one just means I get to be the birthday girl for a bit longer!"
