James was planning.

The Friday night he had planned would be very exciting. Very interesting. Very tight pants.

He was looking forward to it.

"Hallo, the stables!" he called out.

"In here!" Helen called back.

James followed the sound of her voice. "Hello! I'm looking for a Helen. Has anyone seen her?" he called out, teasingly.

"I'm afraid none of our horses are named Helen," she said with mock sadness. "So sorry to disappoint."

"Well, then, I am in the wrong place. Can you direct me to the other stables where one does answer to Helen?" he asked, full of mock chagrin.

"I'm afraid I know of no other stable," she said ruefully. "You may be stuck with me."

He sighed. "I suppose you'll have to do. And what's your name?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow.

"Me, Sir? Why, what would you like my name to be?" she asked innocently.

"Betsy," he declared. "I was trying to find a Helen."

"I could be Betsy," she offered.

"Well, Betsy, it seems that they day won't be ruined after all. I had planned for a ride, and now I do not have a Helen." He really hoped that Helen had not fallen under some spell or had an evil sister.

No spell, no evil twin, merely a Helen in a playful mood, as her attempt to hide her laughter undoubtedly showed.

"I do believe I could help you with that if you wished."

"Oh? For a ride? Let's be about, then!" he declared, not smirking. Really.

"But of course," she said with a smile. "Choose your horse."

"I suppose the bay will do, unless you have other options," he asked, one side of his mouth quirking up.

She looked him over. "I think the bay will serve you well," she said with a smile.

"Ah, well. I require company, Betsy. Saddle up, now." He was turning into a parody of a foppish noble, still managing to keep from laughing.

"As you wish, Sir," she said and began saddling up, coughing into her sleeve to hide her laughter. She'd considered dropping a curtsey, but knew that would have set her off into gales of laughter.

So difficult to get a good stablehand these days. "Quick now, haven't got all night."

He cleared his through. It just sounded like laughter. Really.

She gave him a Look, eyebrows arched, over her shoulder before remembering her part. "I mean... Yes, Sir," she said innocently.

"There might be a bonus later, lass," he called out, turning away to not laugh.

"A big one, I hope," Helen laughed under her breath as she tried to keep a straight face.

"Oh, that would be so kind of you," she said more loudly.

"Huge," he mouthed at her.

"I'm sure you'll like it!" he said, as his mouth developed this funny quirk where it wouldn't quite stay in a normal position.

That got another laugh turned into a cough.

"I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever you choose to give me," she said as demurely as she could manage.

He snorted. The cough right after did nothing but emphasize the snort.

"I'm sure you will, be very happy," he said, a touch pompous.
