Groovy Tunes, Tuesday

Okay, so Jono was a bit late for his shift at the Groovy Tunes today. He figured he was allowed. After all, not only was he managing the place now, he also worked clear through lunch breaks. Really, it was like making up for all of the breaks that he'd never taken.

And also, laziness.

Groovy Tunes is open, and Jono is taking it easy and listening to whatever happens to be on the radio at the time.

[OCD-free and open! I totally didn't forget about this, honest.]

Ben had heard the radio and hadn't wanted to hover too much in the first few days for Jono, but didn't want to seem like a completely callous ass, either.

Which was why he was wandering into the shop with a bag full of really terrible horror movies and a smile on his face. "Hey."

//Ben.// Jono glanced up from the nothing in particular that he was clearly hard at work doing (it took effort to pay such close attention to the paint on the walls), and nodded slightly in greeting. //It's been a while, mate. How've you been?//

He was leaping into 'make the conversation about the other person before it points toward me' territory bright and early, apparently.

"Fine," Ben said. "I was getting bored of the music I had in my alcove," he added, "and figured you might have some suggestions."

[furnaceface]

//Well, you've definitely come to th'right place,// Jono noted, and a moment later he was pushing himself away from the counter and heading around to head toward the displays. //Were you in th'mood for anything in particular? Loud? Soft? Happy or angry or melancholy?//

"Loud but nothing that will make my cabinmates punch me?" Ben requested.

[furnaceface]

Jono paused, looking over his shoulder at Ben, almost amused.

//I think that would depend mostly on yer cabinmates,// he pointed out. //But post-grunge sounds like yer best bet. Maybe Tvfordogs...//

And there he went, rummaging through the CDs, a mutant in his element.

"Most of them I don't really know," Ben admitted, "but I'd rather avoiding being 'the guy with the loud music'."

[furnaceface]

//So what you want, then,// Jono mused, //is something up-tempo, but not obnoxious.//

And about three seconds later, there was a stack of CDs in hand at least a dozen tall.

//Right, then. What band name sounds more interesting t'you, mate? We'll start with that.//

He slapped the CDs down on the counter. The ones on the top included I Mother Earth, Seether, Bush, and Candlebox.

Ben poked at the Seether cover. "What's this one like?" he asked.

[furnaceface]

//Actually, a touch more up-tempo than the others,// Jono noted, pulling the wrapper off of the CD case. He was allowed. He was the Manager.

... Which was kind of awesome, okay?

//Want to give it a listen, mate?//

Yes, he was already popping it into the stereo and flicking to track number six. It was entirely possible that he'd stumbled over this album and bought it months ago, himself, yes.

"Oooh," Ben said as he listened. "I like this."

[furnaceface]

//Not bad, is it?// Jono even managed to look a little proud of himself at that. //Tell you what, mate, I'll let you just take the album for free, for havin' such good taste.//

Jono was clearly making a lot of money with this 'good taste' business strategy of his.

"How about we make a trade?" Ben offered, holding out the bag. "Really bad horror movies for really good music."

[furnaceface]

Jono considered the bag for a moment. A short moment, granted, but the time was actually taken in order to take that bag into consideration. And then he nodded, reaching to take the bag, and pulling a few CDs from the top of the stack to hand to Ben in turn. As if he'd turn down really, really bad films like that.

//It's a deal, mate.// A beat, and then he was rummaging through the selection. //So, you just had these sitting around, did you?//

He doubted it, but.

Ben shrugged. "I've been collecting them for a bit," he admitted. "Now seemed like a good day to get them out of my hands."

[furnaceface]

Jono raised an eyebrow slightly as he pulled one of the movies from the bag, looking it over thoughtfully.

//Have you watched any of them, yet?//

[momslilassassin]

"Not yet," Ben said. "I've been animal-sitting Ender and Tahiri the last few weeks."

[furnaceface]

//Clearly this means there has to be a horror film marathon in one of th'living rooms,// Jono decided. //Dead of night, no lights, popcorn mostly for throwing at th'screen...//

Well, he wasn't going to eat it.

"That sounds astral," Ben replied, grinning.

[furnaceface]

//Excellent.// Jono looked up at Ben, lifting one of the movies in the air as he spoke. //How long d'you suppose it'd take to coordinate something like that, mate?//

Social events were not exactly Jono's strong point, no.

"Maybe do it in that down week between the end of classes and the new kids showing up?" Ben suggested. "We'll be back in the dorms and looking for something to do anyway."

[furnaceface]

//More space in th'common rooms,// Jono agreed, nodding a little.

They had better kitchens, too. Which was a sticking point for making popcorn. Popcorn to throw at the screen.

//Alright, then that's what we'll do. Horrible horror marathon in one of the common rooms. No lights, unless people want t'bring flashlights for effect, perhaps. And they can bring their own junk food, because I'm not providing it.//

...

//Except for the popcorn. For throwing.//

Ben would try to see if he could get people not to bring food for anything other than throwing.

"Popcorn makes an excellent projectile," he said instead.

[furnaceface]

//It bounces,// Jono reported, because this was apparently very important information that nobody else in the world had access to. //Off th'screen of th'telly, at least. Good for taking out frustration on the plonkers who think that hiding behind th'shower curtain will save them from th'bastard with the chainsaw.//

Jono might end up throwing a good deal of popcorn. By the handful. Because of the stupid people on the screen. Of course.

"Because everyone knows shower curtains are built to withstand power tools," Ben said, rolling his eyes.
