Groovy Tunes, Tuesday

Oh, God. Jonothon had certainly gone and stepped into it up to his knees this time, hadn't he? Between the time he'd spent playing music in the common room last week and then his conversation with Rinoa outside of that club the day after, it seemed as though he was stuck somewhere in event planning limbo for an early November concert that he hadn't even spoken to his birthday-present-vocalist about, yet.

And so he did what any sane individual would do when faced with something big and slightly horrifying and a serious lack of, say, fellow band members with which to pull it off.

He panicked and stuck a sign in the window.

Play An Instrument?
Bring it in.
Play it.
Leave with a CD of your choice for free.

He'd bribe people into sneaky, unofficial auditions, naturally.

[Open and, as always, free of that pesky OCD thing!]

"Suddenly I think you're not just talking about me getting a free CD," Peter said, adopting a cocky posture. He had something someone else wanted. "I can definitely play keyboards. But I can't do back-up vocals."

No, seriously. Don't ask him to sing.

"There's the piano in the rec room," Peter said. "I can always play that, if you need proof."

It would be very unlike the last time he'd played in the rec room, oh yes.

"Sounds fair," Peter said. "So, what ever happened to Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, they ever do a reunion tour?"

He went to start browsing the aisles, but he could still converse.

For given 'I'm just jerking you around' sort of conversation.

"Anything truly important from the last ten years of music I need to listen to?" Peter asked, moving on. "I've been sticking with stuff I know for awhile, now."

"Ninety-six, myself," Peter informed Jono, casually accepting the year difference in timelines. He was certain, given Jono's other unique qualities, that it was actually about the closest thing they had in common, in terms of home. "And from Boston, so the Grunge movement was a little west of me. But Pearl Jam's pretty good. I listen to just about anything, really. At least once."

"I was wondering," Peter said. "The voice in the head with an accent thing? That's actually pretty clever. Or... interesting. Whatever the right word is.

"Radiohead it is," he declared. "A band that would probably inspire my father to build a radio in someone's head."

"He's in a mental hospital, or at least, he's supposed to be," Peter said. "He taught here, when I first showed up. He disappeared after the first summer term."
