Planet Pizza - Lunch time-ish

Look, it wasn't because they'd gone to the brunch that it meant that they couldn't eat more. They could always eat more, and if Jake was going to have pizza, then Embry and Quil were going with him. Besides, they were kind of curious to meet this Claudia.

"You really didn't have to come, you know," Jake commented, they were standing outside, waiting for Claudia to show up.

"It's no trouble," Quil assured him brightly.

"Yeah, and besides, you're paying so it's all cool," Embry felt the need to point out.

Jake wondered exactly why he liked having them around again.

[For the date gone wrong. The restaurant is, of course, open for your pizza needs.]

And lo, there was Claudia walking up. She waved cheerfully, probably about as curious to meet members of Jake's pack as they were to meet her. "So, decided to go with the food that had the grease already built in, huh?"

"Uh huh," Jake nodded and he grinned at her. "I figure we'll actually be able to say something while they're stuffing their faces."

He rolled his eyes and motioned towards them. "That's Quil and that's Embry."

"Nice to meet you," Quil grinned.

"You're cuter in real life," Embry agreed, bouncing on his toes.

"As opposed to my internet persona?" Claudia shrugged. "Nice to meet you guys. Have you manged to horribly embarrass Jake, yet?"

"We're kind of linked and see what he remembers," Quil explained. "And no, not nearly enough."

"But we're willing to give it another go," Embry offered instantly.

Jake was just going to good naturedly roll his eyes and motioned towards the door. "Can we do it when we have food?"

Claudia laughed. "It's probably only fair if you guys take it easy," she told Quil and Embry. "After all, there's no one around to embarrass me." She bounced -- just a little -- over to the door. "Now come on, I'm starving!"

"Hey, we can embarrass you too," Embry offered instantly as they headed inside. "Like if you knew about that dream that Ja-"

Jake only just was able to put his hand in front of Embry's mouth. "I am so making Sam put you two on watch with Leah for the rest of the year."

Claudia looked between the two of them. "Okay, then. So, uh, the pizza here any good? I don't think I've actually tried it."

"Trust me, I wouldn't bring you here if it sucked," Jake assured her. Embry got another warning look before Jake made his way to one tables for four people.

"No kidding, Jake takes his food seriously," Quil joked.

"Well, he's a big guy. Takes lots of calories to keep him going. So, you guys are all. . . ?" She gestured, trying to convey "wolfy" without actually saying it out loud.

They were all big, even if Jake was still taller than them.

"Yep," Embry smirked. "We're all pack brothers. Quil here's actually joined the latest."

"Saving the best for last," Quil said instantly.

"And they're both very modest," Jake rolled his eyes as he took a seat.

"Really? I thought it was, like . . . genetic." Claudia shrugged, feeling slightly lame for having assumed that. "Like, you know, a big extended family or something."

"It is, but it's dormant," Jake explained. "My grandfather Ephraim Black led the last werewolf pack. Quil's dad was in it too. It just doesn't awaken unless there's leeches around and we don't change until we're older."

"And now we've got plenty of those around," Embry grumbled as he picked up the menu, pretending like him not being mentioned wasn't a big deal. "Which is why our pack's a lot bigger than the last one was."

Biology could give Claudia a headache on a good day. Throw in werewolves and such, and she was actually just a little bit lost.

"So you guys were all, like, scattered, until you ran into --" Claudia broke off, her eyes widening as she spotted someone familiar standing by the door. "-- the . . . thingies?"

Mrs. Frederic so didn't need to hear all about werewolves and vampires and things.

"Not scattered, we're all from La Push and Sam-" Jake punched Quil's shoulder, stopping his explanation.

"You know her?" he asked, following Claudia's gaze.

Mrs. Frederic raised an eyebrow, moving closer. Claudia dropped her head into her hands.

"That's my social worker."

Mrs. Frederic was nearly at the table, and nodded to Jake and his pack brothers. "That is not much of an introduction, Ms. Donovan."

Social worker, those were kind of the bad guys in all those orphan movies, right?

"I'm Jacob Black," Jake said, giving Claudia some time to gather her thoughts. "I go to school here, and these are my friends visiting for the weekend. Embry Call and Quil Ateara."

Mrs. Frederic nodded approvingly. "Thank you, Jacob." She looked at Claudia, who sighed and gestured at her.

"Mrs. Frederic. It was her idea to kick me out of Minnesota."

Mrs. Frederic hummed under her breath. "It's a pleasure to meet you all."

"Nice to meet you, ma'am," Jake said, proving that he could do polite. Quil and Embry merely nodded in agreement. "And I don't think that was such a bad decision, it's much better here than in Minnesota."

"Don't encourage her!" Claudia hissed.

"You disagree that this is a better environment for you than the foster families in Minneapolis?" asked Mrs. Frederic.

Claudia slouched down in her chair. "Yeah, okay, fine, it's great, now go away."

"Sorry," Jake mouthed, but it seemed kind of mean making her just leave. Also, kind of awkward.

"Is that why you're here? To see if she's taken care of?" he asked.

"Of course. The state of Minnesota cares deeply about Ms. Donovan's welfare."

"I haven't blown anything up, yet," Claudia pointed out.

Mrs. Frederic hummed.

"She hasn't," Jake confirmed. "And she's even got a job and stuff. Which is more than what I'm doing."

He thought that was helpful. Maybe?

"Which shows that she's not as lazy," Embry added.

"Laziness has never been one of Ms. Donovan's vices." Mrs. Frederic looked Claudia over. "And there's been no more breaking and entering into school buildings?"

Claudia wondered if the look on her face meant she knew something. She folded her arms piously. "No, ma'am."

"Excellent." Mrs. Frederic nodded to the group. "Well, I'll leave you children to your pizza, then."

"Um, thanks you, ma'am," Jake said, shooting Claudia a look and wondering if they should invite her. She had come all this way, but he'd rather not have Claudia kill him for suggesting it either. "Have a nice day."

"Thank you, Jacob. It's good to see that Ms. Donovan has found such good friends." Mrs. Frederic turned to Claudia, just in time to see her shooting desperate glances at Jake. "Ms. Donovan, we'll speak more later."

"Oh goody, can't wait."

Mrs. Frederic nodded one last time, then turned to leave. Claudia flopped in her chair.

"She so gives me the creeps."
