The Park, Saturday Morning
Jonothon was dismayed to find that he was having a hell of a time sleeping in, this morning. That probably had something to do with the tiny kitten, who had made it her personal mission to curl up on his face.
And it wasn't as though she was actually smothering him, really. After all, he didn't breathe. But when tiny kittens got comfortable, there was this kneading thing that they did with their tiny claws...
Jonothon was taking Joni for a walk. He might as well, anyhow. She needed the fresh air, and he needed to work off some more of that anxiousness that he'd been picking up on before taking the kitten over to meet Raven. With any luck, Joni wouldn't harass the ducks too much while they were passing through the park.
Bloody ducks.
[Open park is open!]

So at least the urge to smash down a few brick walls had dissipated. The whole urge to make out with someone? Still there.
Not that this was why he detoured when he caught the scent of sulphur going through the park. No, he hadn't seen Jono in quite a while and maybe that was because he didn't know how to broach a certain object.
"Hey," Jake greeted. Please, ignore the whole only wearing jeans thing. "Who's your friend?"
no subject
//Morning, Jacob,// he greeted, nodding a little. //This would be Joni.// A beat. //George found her one day and got it in her head that she'll find some way to accidentally turn her into hamburger meat or worse, and so I inherited a kitten.//
'Had her dropped onto his desk while at work' would have been more accurate, really.
//How've you been, mate?//
It had been a while.

"She eats a lot of cats?" Jake asked. "Even I don't do that."
He knelt down to inspect the cat and hopefully she wouldn't run a mile because of the whole wolf scent. "I think I've had better weeks. You?"

Joni didn't seem to mind the wolf-scent. Either she was a seriously brave kitty, or else sleeping curled up on Jono's chest had left her with no sense of smell (or self-preservation). She made her way over to him and sniffed about his feet for a moment, and then she was purring and winding around his ankles.
Joni was a special kitty.
//I haven't been given much to complain about this week,// Jono admitted a moment later. //Aside from everyone on the island being bloody absurd since Monday, anyhow.// And no, he wasn't any exception to that. //Rough week, then?//

"I've been avoiding people for the most part," he admitted, "but being cooped up doesn't really do me much good."
no subject
//Being cooped up doesn't tend to do anybody any measure of good, really,// Jono acknowledged, watching the kitten for a moment before looking at Jake and giving his shoulders a shrug. //At least out here, there's th'fresh air. And not many people about this time of day, I should hope.//
He could also appreciate not wanting to be cooped up while still having some space to oneself without people nosing in edgewise.

Apparently, they felt just as horny as they smelled. Fun times, that.
//Anyhow, my sense of smell isn't quite what it used t'be. I think that's probably for th'best, right about now.//
And issues he might have that would be caused directly by the pollen were conveniently dealt with by the fire. But there was still plenty of psionic feedback from everyone who was being affected by it, and so even he wasn't completely off the hook. Damn teenagers.

He frowned. "You mean like pick up from their behaviour? Cause you're kind of sounding like you mean something else."
He stroked down the mohawk again and scratched under Joni's chin instead.
no subject
//Pick up as in...// He shrugged a little, awkwardly. //It's kind of contagious, is all.//
Which seemed far less uncomfortable to share than, 'try though I might not to, I can feel things like this when it's everyone all at once, and they're projecting it loudly enough.'
no subject
"That's one word for it," he frowned, idly keeping up those scritches. "I dunno. I wasn't able to change for a while so that kind of messed things up."

"I went home for a bit this weekend. Got to kill some leeches, but not everything went as I would have liked."
no subject
Vampires. Right.
//I imagine they wouldn't be terribly fond of letting themselves be killed,// he noted.
Joni, meanwhile, was purring more! And trying to get her paws up around Jake's hand. They could wrestle! He knew how to wrestle, right?
no subject
"No, they didn't," Jake gave him a toothy, wolfish grin. "They didn't get a lot of say in the matter. It would have been fine if Leah hadn't been an idiot and tried to take on one that had gotten away on her own."
no subject
Obviously, Jono.

//Not an altogether pleasant experience, then.//

//I can only imagine it would be a bit like being trapped in a box, or sommat,// he mused. //Being... restricted that way, I mean.//
He had some experience as well, with being stuck as only half of himself.

Jake's attention was on the kitten however, and his finger was putting up a valiant fight, tapping her nose on occasion to challenge her.
"We can stop changing if we want to," Jake said. "It just requires a whole lot more control than I have right now. It's weird, needing something that you didn't want in the first place but it's not all bad, you know?"
no subject
When he pushed his powers too far, using his telepathy was a bit more than a challenge, sometimes for hours on end. Try communicating without that.
If anyone asked Joni what she thought of the situation, she'd probably just do as she was doing now, hunkering down and then trying to pounce Jake's hand. Tap her on the nose, would he? That was fighting talk! Kinda!
no subject
"I think it'd be almost easier just being a wolf," he admitted. "It's so much simpler. You don't need to feel or think as much. There's just instinct and you can keep running as far as you want."
no subject
Joni was having herself a grand old time, now! Belly rubs! That was an invitation to wrestle, pure and simple! And so there were wee teeny kitten teeth, trying to get the upper hand over Jacob's thumb. Take that!
no subject
"You're making it sound as a good thing," he said, but it did sound tempting. He wouldn't have to figure out what happened next or what he felt for who. "I thought it'd be easier getting back here."
