Jake wondered if he should be worried that coming back to Fandom was something of a relief after spending almost an entire week in St. John's.

At least Christian had been sent on his merry way, hopefully never to darken the Doyle's doorstep again. And Malachy had been well enough after the operation to fix his heart that he'd pointed out that Jake might as well move the rest of his crap out of said residence as well, since he had his own place (well, hotel room) in Fandom and all.

But all of that was rather irrelevant at the moment, because at the moment Jake was staring at the contents of a large crate a delivery guy had just dropped off.

"What in the shaggin' hell am I supposed to do with a plant pot that looks like a tricycle? This is a pub, not a bloody garden centre!"

Maybe he could re-gift it to Lacey or Mary or someone?

"Ya know what?" said Kūkaku, leaning her arm on the bar. "I'm feelin' adventurous tonight, gimme somethin' not so cheap for a change."

"Not so cheap, eh?" Jake echoed. "Whisky it is, then. Anything in particular bring that on?" he asked as he poured the drink and handed it over.

Kūkaku shrugged. "I jus' didn't feel like drinkin' piss tonight?" she offered. "Whiskey, though, nice pick."

"Course it's a nice pick, I'm the one that picked it."

"An' I suppose I should just trust somethin' just because you picked it?"

"When it comes to liquor?" Jake shrugged. "Well, I do work in a pub, so yeah."

"By that logic," Kūkaku pointed out, "I work in a school, so that must mean I know what I'm talkin' about when it comes to teaching."

Which, actually, she did, but she liked to act like the idea was completely preposterous.

"Don't ye?" Jake wondered. "I mean, I know the curriculum's a little wacky- they let me teach about detectiveing last summer- but I didn't think they'd hire someone who was just talking out their arse."

And then Kūkaku had that thing called an ego.

"Ahhhhh, ya got me," she said, grinning stupidly as she waved her hand and then straightened importantly. "They did have the sense to hire the best damn fireworks expert in the entire world. So, I guess, if ya need anything blown up, I'll return the favour, how's that sound?"

Since she was heading home tomorrow, Jaina was feeling just restless enough to get out for a while, which is why she ended up at the bar. Of course when she saw the crate, she had to ask, "Do I even want to know?"

"I'm not even certain I know," Jake admitted. "You're welcome to take your best guess, though."

She craned her neck to get a better look, deciding, "Well, it looks like a horrible shipping mistake to me."

"I know, right? It does not go with the decor at all." Inasmuch as the place had any sort of decor.

It didn't go with the zombies. Lets go with that.

"I haven't been to many karaoke bars... or, any besides this one, but I'm pretty sure we'd be the first with a plant... thing," she mused.

"You want it?" Jake asked hopefully. It wasn't on any of the official shipping manifests of stuff that was supposed to be delivered, so Jake figured he was safe as far as trying to get rid of it went.

Jaina snorted at that. "Not even a little. You sure you don't want to take it home or something?"

"I live in a hotel room!" Jake objected. "Where would I put it?"

"Wherever it looks best." She looked up from the crate, grinning. "Sorry, I seem to be having too much fun with this."

"You are a cruel, cruel woman," Jake said, wagging a finger at her accusingly. "I'd kill a plant within a week!"

"How? Don't you just have to water them or something?" she asked. "I'd say you could go at least two."

"Did you know you can over water plants?" Jake asked, eyebrow raised.

"Didn't think about it," she admitted. "So I suggest not overwatering it."

Apparently she'd just decided the plant was his, or something.

"The problem," Jake clucked at her, "is in deciding how much water is overwatering it."

He might've been taking Jaina's suggestion as a dare of sorts now.

"That's what the Internet is for," she said wisely. "It's got to be on there somewhere."
