Caritas | Wednesday

Why break a routine, right? Nathan made it three weeks in a row in the bar on a Wednesday and three weeks in a row, he ended up behind the bar when Tino's regular bartender didn't show up again. Nathan was beginning to think this guy was on sabbatical or some shit. Or maybe he was mad at Tino.

No matter, Nathan grabbed a bottle of Irish whiskey and set it up on the bar, pouring himself a glass and downing it quickly. He wasn't thinking of the bitchy fight he'd had with Kate earlier or any of the other million weird and complicated things that had happened to him lately.

Nope, he was a man who had liquor and that would erase all those thoughts he didn't want to have right now. Okay, maybe those thoughts were sticking around but Nathan was ignoring that fact. He was toasting the band and toasting Tino and toasting Tino's attempts at singing with the band.

Oh wow, letting her choose while she was getting tipsy and spilling her drink and feeling rather drunkly pleased with herself for some reason or another. This was not going to end well.

"Hmm..." Or she was going to spend a while adding to her blood alcohol level while she considered what to share. "But you already know my really good secret," Caroline complained. "Which I am super amazing at keeping - oh you should know that! I am a fantastic keeper of secrets! Um, even if I told you." She was incapable of keeping a secret, actually.

"Most of the good stuff I know, so doesn't apply because you don't know my friends from back home," she informed him, allowing him to take the glass away. "And it's kinda freaky with the supernatural. Or did you mean good like I really need to give my dad and his boyfriend a call before spring break?" Maybe she'd even get permission for a Hawaiian shopping spree.

"Is gay, yes. It's cool most of the time, except for when he was married to my mother, though, I can totally see why he picked her," Caroline replied. "She's kind of the opposite of me. I like hair and makeup, she likes guns and ammo. I like following through with plans, she likes disappointing me. Then, I like disappointing her right back in her face!"

"Please, like my mother could take the time off for a tug of war," Caroline said, rolling her eyes. She was more a child of parents who were too busy to pay her the attention she wanted, and so she acted out to try and punish them for not loving her.

Not that Caroline was ever going to be self-aware enough to realize this.

"Dad moved out of town and I stayed in Mystic Falls. Better to be with friends, right? Though I had to leave everyone for Fandom." That still kind of sucked when she thought about it.

"Yeah, but see, yelling doesn't work with Sheriff Forbes," Caroline informed him, her face saying she'd tried it many times before. "What you'd need to do was let out the delinquent side of your personality and then make out with her daughter in front of her. Then she'd feel it."

Oh Caroline.

"No," Caroline said simply, having enjoyed kissing him even if she wasn't sure yet it was going to be something that happened often. "Just one of those fringe benefit things. Not like, jacket fringe because that's just scary-looking."

"Umm..." Right because Caroline was really in a position to be talking in depth about important things. "The usual benefits of kissing?" Was there something she was missing?

"Next, sure, better, well isn't there always room for improvement?" Caroline teased before she realized that he'd finished the bottle and now she was without a new drink. Ass.

"You finished our drink so I'm going to spin now," she informed him, kicking off the other stool and turning hers around and around.

Caroline stopped spinning to lean on the counter and giggle at his idiocy. "You're so dumb," she told him, smiling way more than anyone should smile while accusing someone of lacking brains. Blame the alcohol he'd helped her obtain.

Caroline cocked her head to one side, laughing at him again. "Clever like a fox, but not like a wolf. You're dumb 'cause you think I don't want to kiss you. And it makes me sad for you. Like we should get you a special bus to keep you from getting lost between here and the room."

"Maybe I want to sleep on the beach," Caroline said, leaning on the bar to mirror him because clearly he thought she was drunk and she wasn't. Nope. "Maybe now I won't let you join me. Or kiss me." They weren't mutually exclusive activities.

She was completely trashed, but she would not be copping to it anytime soon. "I don't care about sand, dummy." Though she'd probably whine about the cold. "Besides, you wanna kiss me. Don't even think about denying it because I know the the tru-uth!" Sing-songing the words was maybe not going to make anyone think she was even nearly sober.
