The Causeway | Morning | Sunday | February 20

It was just about time to depart for the annual Fandom High Spring Break trip. Portals had been called, arrangements had been made and now all the group had to do was wait for the scheduled portals to appear.

The causeway was a mess of students and adults, carrying bags and talking excitedly about whatever plans the might have for the upcoming week. It was chilly in Fandom but the group was about to head to the sunny shores of Hawaii. Hope you packed your sunscreen!

"I do not intend to spend much time near the water, either," Raven said. The edge of the beach, maybe, but the water itself? That was a little too scary.

"But I am certain there will be many other things to do," she added. "I have been studying the website for the hotel to see what activities they have to offer."

Jono looked slightly bemused, at that, crossing his arms over his chest.

//Day trips to spas? Sampling th'local cuisine? Also not really my sort of thing. Mostly, I think I'm just looking forward to a week away from th'snow.//

In order to hug the air conditioner, no matter how unbecoming Emma insisted that it was.

Raven would have to side with Emma on her opinion on air conditioner hugging.

"There are the astronomical observatories, which I hope to see," she said, "and the waterfalls and volcanoes and such things as whale watching and listening to the local music. Or hiking -- you enjoyed that in Vail. The time to relax will be very welcome, but I hope you do not intend to stay in your room the entire trip."

Don't make her break out the wibbly girl eyes, Jono. She will.

Damn those girl eyes! Damn them!

//... Maybe th'music wouldn't be so terrible,// Jono allowed, because Raven had managed to find the magic word. //Volcanoes wouldn't be half-bad either...//

He kind of wanted to go swimming. That wasn't going to happen. And, as was his way, he was far more likely to choose to mope about the things that he couldn't do than actively look around for things that he could.

Girl eyes and music. Raven knew Jono's weaknesses and was just so terribly ruthless enough to use them against him. She wasn't going to let him mope all week if she could help it.

"I have information about the music I can share with you," she said. "I thought you might like that. And there are many tours every day of the natural wonders of the island. I intend to spend at least one evening on Mauna Kea to experience their stargazing program. It is supposed to be quite wondrous, and I would be very pleased if you would come with me."

//Stargazing?// Well, that seemed like a simple enough request... who was he to say no? //I think that can be arranged, Sunshine.//

He closed his eyes for a moment, and then he reached out a hand toward hers.

//I'm being difficult again, aren't I?//

"Thank you," Raven said with a smile as she took his hand in hers. She sent a gentle pulse of affection through that physical contact.

"I just do not want you to spend this vacation being unhappy," she went on. "Though I do not wish to be too pushy."

He closed his hand around hers, running his thumb softly against her wrist.

Touch. He'd kind of missed that. He still wasn't ready to pull her into his arms, but this was... it was something.

//There's no harm in being a bit pushy,// he noted. //Goodness knows I need a good thump upside th'head now and again, or I'll start growing moss.//

"Well, we cannot have that," she said, mock scolding as she squeezed his hand. "And since I cannot thump you, I will have to engage in non-violent methods of keeping active."

[I flee as I am being dragged out to forcibly meet a Relly and an N. MY LIFE IS SO HARD.]

//I suppose there's always tying me up and dragging me around in a wagon,// Jono mused.

It was nonviolent! And also effective!

//I'll... try, this week, okay? Not to somehow ruin this vacation by moping right on through it.//

It might only last a few days. But the effort would be made.

"Should I have asked Quistis for a pair of handcuffs to bring back with me?" Raven teased.

Though there was still time to run to 'Dite's, wasn't there?

"I hope you are able to enjoy yourself, at least a little bit," she said more soberly. "But please, tell me if I am hovering too much. I know I sometimes do that."

//Yer doing well,// Jono decided, after the initial mandatory widening of his eyes that came from Raven talking about handcuffs.

There were some mental images that could cause pretty certain blue screens of death, with Jono. Raven talking about that particular kink of his was apparently one of them.

Also, it came with the best mental image ever.

//I don't think it'll be too much of a problem, luv.//

Raven couldn't miss that reaction. Empathy was so useful that way. And she was definitely filing it away for future exploration, yes. Not soon, but one day.

"Good," she said, giving his hand another squeeze. "And I look forward to seeing the stars with you."
