Caritas- Saturday

Today was weird, if that even needed to be said. Going to graduation and remembering that she'd done that just last year except it was six years ago now was odd enough, and then there had been Vikings, which Jaina could identify due to that one night a couple months ago she'd Googled "Vikings" and ended up stuck in a Wikipedia loop for three hours.

Once she'd finished with all things graduation, she'd gone to Caritas a little late for her very last shift. That was somehow stranger than what had happened at the ceremony, and she was firmly not dealing with any sadness or any thinking about how she was gone in a few days. No, tonight she was repressing and making herself a drink because it was her last night and she could, and also advertising a special.

"Tell you the truth, I could probably ask and he'd come along," she said. Eric's poking-the-Jello analogy actually made even more sense now, thinking about it. "And even if I can't make it back, it's not like I'm ever without my phone and comlink."

"Hey, I've been gone a while, but I remember that," Rose pointed out. "Not all of us are getting elderly."

"Twenty-seven is not elderly!" Jaina protested. Not that she didn't worry how old she'd be in two weeks...

"Nah, but it's pretty old," she smirked. "And you've been in a lot of fights so your brain functions are probably going anyway."

Jaina narrowed her eyes, though she was only teasing. "Has anyone called you a brat lately?"

"Well, they'd be lying if they did," she pointed out innocently. "I was called an evil creature of the night? It's close?"

"I'd think an evil creature of the night is worse," she said thoughtfully. "But it might depend on what kind of evil creature of the night."

"Vampiric? Demonic? Teenage?" Rose suggested jokingly.

"Ugh, that last one's the worse," Jaina said, shaking her head.

"I dunno," Rose considered. "I mean, demonic just sounds ugly, and vampires? Not really as hot as some movies would have you think. Teenage, at least, is true."

Rose shrugged, restricting her own issues to a shake of her head. "Yeah, but being old now, you have to say that," she smirked.

"Yes, when you turn twenty-five they give you a fact sheet with things you have to say as a new 'old person,'" Jaina nodded. "When you turn fifty I hear they teach you how to tell people to get off your lawn."

"Shit, I'm going to have to ask Dimitri to see his," she laughed. "Unless you're planning to share?"

"Sorry, I'm not allowed to divulge that information," she said, being a good girl and keeping her expression even at that mention.

"Yeah, yeah," she rolled her eyes. "So how'd your class end up? Got any converts to the Jaina side?"

"I didn't realize I had a side now." Which would be neat. "It went well. There were a few classes that had to be changed last minute thanks to Fandom whimsy, but there were no detentions needed and I'm actually going to miss it. Don't ask me how that happened."

"Didn't you say you kinda had to teach a little at home with the Jedi thing?" Rose checked. "Maybe it's just...fate or something so now you know you'll be good at it."

"I had my cousin with me for a while, trying to get him to open up some and learn, but I wasn't that great at it," she admitted. "Maybe I could be a good teacher, but I don't think I could do it this way again. If there's fighting to be done, I can't spend all my time in front of a class."

"Yeah, I know," she said. "I wouldn't ever say that. But - sometimes it's good to know you can do something, you know?" Rose played with a napkin before adding, "I talked Lissa into accepting a nomination and taking the trials to be Queen."

Look, the ideas were totally connected in Rose's head.

Jaina tilted her head. "Does she want to be Queen?"

She'd almost unwillingly ended up one. It was a very important question to her.

"She can't be Queen," Rose said. "She's gotta have a family member to speak for her once all the trials are over. But Lissa would rather be a good Queen for both our people than have a bad monarch take over and screw it all up."
