Turtle & Canary, Sunday

Dolf trudged obediently to work that morning. He'd had to dig into some of his money reserves to go to Triela's funeral, which meant he'd gotten knocked back a few notches from his target. And that meant getting into work in time (...not that he thought Shunsui would notice if he wasn't) and doing some extra restocking in penance.

Even Apu commented on the fact that he seemed awfully quiet that day.

Dolf just muttered something about having a lot to think about, and went about his day without moping visibly.

Well. Except for that time someone knocked a few eggs off the shelf.

"Oh, don't mind me!" Jane had called out to the boy working in the store today, as she herself came in and headed for behind the counter, where she knew some of yesterday's paperwork would still be. "I just forgot a few things yesterday when I---oh, dear," she said, straightening as she sniffed the air, "there's spilled eggs somewhere, aren't there?"

"...Are you sure you wouldn't like a little help?" Jane asked, tilting her head at the mop, and daring to put the paperwork off for a moment longer to inspect the damage.

On her way, she added, "Shall I find the panda to get some cheese so we can make an omelette?"

To that, Jane just gave a snort and looked over the damage on the floor. "I don't think," she said wryly, "Mr. Kyōraku would care what we did around here, just so long as it didn't waste any of his alcohol. And though Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon does a wonderful job of sweeping the floor every day, I don't think I'd actually want to bake on the floor, myself."

And, really, Jane should let the poor frazzled fellow off a little, but he was just making this so easy and she was in a terribly good mood.

"Oh," she said, her voice sounding sincere, but the smirk on her face tainting it a little, "but it seems like such an awful waste..."

"Better make it a spatula," said Jane, who then added, briefly afterwards, since she had a feeling that the poor boy was actually thinking she might be serious, "I'm just joking, by the way."

Jane gave a faint smile. "Well," she reasoned, "if you really do feel bad about it, maybe we can get a hot plate and find a good use for some scrambled eggs. Goodness only knows I've put far worse in my mouth before than eggs on a clean tile floor, and the shells might add a nice crunch if we wind up missing any."
