Long-Term Finance Class [Community Center, Thursday evening]

Eric and Jack were back in front of the classroom again, and laptops had been placed on each person's desk. "Tonight we will work with a simulation that will let you experience the importance of making proper financial decisions without risking any real money," Eric said.

Via being stranded on a weird planet full of slime. Eric thought he was amusing. "Please run through the simulation and then tell us how much money you managed to save up by July. Could you afford your return ticket home?"

Eric had been able to, easily. Jack...not so much. "What investments did you make? Did you choose to eat less food, commute? Skip vacations?" He waved his hand. "And yes, before anyone complains, the simulation doesn't make allowance for enhanced abilities to glamour people into doing what you want or the money you'd save if don't have to eat food."

He was thinking of writing an email.

...okay, not really.

Oh, ffffffffft. Bo swore at least three times. Those would be the three years she was virtually stuck on Knab, before she figured out the right combinations.

What she was even doing here again, she'd probably have to think hard about before she could answer, considering last week it was pretty much an accident. But hell, it wasn't like she knew how long her species of whateverthefuck lived.

"Oh Balls," Isabela growled at the screen. Really, it'd taken her long enough to figure out what the fuck they were doing. (At least she could spy on other people.) And now she had a debt.

"How is that realistic? I'd have won that easily gambling."

Hermione wasn't exactly sure why she was back after the cheating at gambling last week, but she was, and once she heard what this class was about today, she thought maybe she'd judged it too quickly last week.

Maybe. As it turned out, the simulation wasn't going as well for her as she thought, and she was beginning to look downright worried as she watched the money. Specifically, how little she had of it.

Surreal....really had no idea what was going on, and was failing miserably. Mostly because she'd only ever had one computer class.

"Do these words even mean anything?" she asked the class in general, poking at a random a key in frustration.

George swore near the end of the simulation.

"I went for the less-risky investment, and the nicer home, and I got dick for it," she announced. "I even skipped my vacation and I ended up two grand short. This Knab place blows."

"The ... one that paid more to start," George said. "The other one said you could get a raise, but ... I don't usually ... get raises."

It was good to know your limitations, wasn't it?

Hermione was not looking happy at the end. "I thought I was playing safe," she said. "I took the job that was faster to give a raise because I know I'm a hard worker-" Maybe she'd have gotten more if she were a Hufflepuff. "-and I stuck to shorter-term plans and the smaller house since it's just me and I didn't plan to stay for long, and I worked on my vacation and I'm stuck on that planet for a full year."

Considering some of her classes at Hogwarts, it wasn't really that odd to be asked that question. "Minimum on slime suppressant, moderate on food. It's just me, but I was hoping to do better at work, and the house I chose should have helped with the slime."

All right, that was a weird thing to say.

Someone who definitely wasn't in this class showed up after it was over, looking... mildly twitchy, but also cold in that way Mitchell could occasionally manage. "Eric," he said, 'We should talk."

George had no idea why she was doing this, other than sheer curiosity. And maybe she was wondering if he'd be able to sense what she was, as well.

"So, um." She fidgeted, staring at Eric. This was intimidating, and for several reasons, at that. "You're ... really a vampire?"

On nicotine and wishful thinking? Wait, no, that's how a succubus who doesn't feed on humans lives.
