Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, The Park, Friday Afternoon

The day had dawned crisp and clear, but by the time afternoon had rolled around... it was really still kind of ridiculously warm for fall. People could probably get away with not wearing a sweater, even.

Which made rather good weather for a picnic, convenient since that was the traditional way of kicking off the Fandom High Parents' (and assorted other relatives, friends, acquaintances, or sometimes even enemies, but that was harder to fit nicely on a banner) Weekend. So there were rows of picnic tables decked out in blue and yellow, laid out with just about any sort of foodstuff one could imagine. And just in case there was any lingering doubt as to the purpose of the picnic, a glittery banner (Petra's work, naturally) adorned the registration tables:

"Oh that's... okay." A shame? Nice? Tangled signals had Mulder stymied for a moment, and he settled on, "So you'll be here all weekend."

That was not a come-on, but he realized too late what it sounded like.

"That's right." Pam sidled up to Mulder. "You wanna meet up later?"

This was Mulder's terrified face. As Scully could tell you, though, it looked just like his deadpan face.

Why had he given her his real name, again?

"I'm staying in town." No, no he wasn't. "I'm sure we'll... find each other. You should check out Caritas." While he went to the other bar. He wasn't allowed back there anyway.

"Yeah?" Pam smiled at him, smacking her lips again. "We'll have to do that, won't we, Melanie?"

"I'm not old enough to drink yet, Mom."

"They still let kids in." Look what depths he sank to. Encouraging underage drinking. "But. Um." Pause. "Yeah, I have to go. Find someone. I think I hear my mom calling."

Pam bristled. "Hey, we have enough delinquents in this family!"

Melanie pulled on her arm. "Come on, Mom, I think I see a cheese platter over there." She flashed Mulder an apologetic smile. "It was very nice to meet you."
