Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, The Park, Friday Afternoon

The day had dawned crisp and clear, but by the time afternoon had rolled around... it was really still kind of ridiculously warm for fall. People could probably get away with not wearing a sweater, even.

Which made rather good weather for a picnic, convenient since that was the traditional way of kicking off the Fandom High Parents' (and assorted other relatives, friends, acquaintances, or sometimes even enemies, but that was harder to fit nicely on a banner) Weekend. So there were rows of picnic tables decked out in blue and yellow, laid out with just about any sort of foodstuff one could imagine. And just in case there was any lingering doubt as to the purpose of the picnic, a glittery banner (Petra's work, naturally) adorned the registration tables:

"That's me," he confirmed with a smirk. "And I'm a slut for cupcakes."

That probably didn't sound very good, but it was true. "You're welcome, by the way. Even if the radio announcement happened during crack weekend."

He hadn't been here long enough to realize that crack weekend was nearly a bi-monthly event.

Quinn had downloaded the podcasts later, just to make sure there wasn't anything too incriminating that made the air.

"People saw the sign," she said. "And if I say I'm happy to enable cupcake sluttishness, does that sound really dirty?"

"It can't be any dirtier than me saying I'm a cupcake slut." And he wasn't going to be at all surprised if it made the news.

"So, any surprises for you today?"

"No, unless lookalikes count," Quinn told him. "I got fake twins for my old cheer coach and my former best frenemy. Any surprises for you?"

"Nope. I'm surprise free!" ~~Until he ran into George's sister, that is.~~

"I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing."

"Depends how you feel about the people who might show up," Quinn offered. "But I don't mind being on my own. It means I can focus on making things nice for everybody else."

She liiiiiied.

"It would have been nice if Fu and Rai could have shown up, but they're working their asses off at school." He totally didn't blame them for not taking the time.

Really, he didn't. SeeD was hard.

"See, I'm not that close to people at my old school anymore," Quinn said. There was a trace of sadness there, but mostly it was just a fact. "And my mom has to work, and my dad ... I don't even want to know. New divorce."

Not that she was bitter. Oh wait, she was.

"I think they're the ones I'm closest too. I kinda of talk to others, but not a lot."

The mood was getting emo over here. "Though, with them not here, there's no opportunity for me being embarrassed."

Unlike certain others. He kind of felt sorry for them.

"And we have way more free time than we would if we had guests," Quinn agreed, appreciating the attempt to be non-emo. "It's nice not to have to worry about explaining Deadpool to my mom."

"Deadpool... I could explain him by way of drugs and being dropped on his head. Repeatedly. How the hell do you explain Pinkie Pie?"

Seriously. How do you explain a talking pink pony?

"You say ...." Quinn put on an incredibly poised facial expression and tone of voice. "'Look, Mom, the school has an amazing theater department. They built that costume.' And then you walk fast."

"Do you think that excuse would work for Madrox?" he asked, laughing.

"Don't know. I am not in his class," Quinn said. She sounded mostly grateful for this. "Is it really as bad as it sounds?"

"He made us lick doorknobs," not that Seifer had done that. He had eaten five pounds of bacon though. "And turned himself into Angry Birds."

Quinn couldn't come up with anything to say for a long moment.

"... your class," she finally decided, "needs to stage a coup. He's unfit to lead."

"And yet, they let him teach." Really, that was the scary part. "I don't know how Skywalker and Deadpool haven't killed him yet."

"If anybody could do it and hide the body, I think they could." And now Quinn was going to have to come up with a plot in case she ended up in the class next semester.

"Just know, if his assignment is to lick doorknobs to see if they taste like something and you refuse, you may end up eating five pounds of that something."

The first two pounds of bacon had been okay, the last three hadn't gone down as well.
