The Boards, Tuesday, All Day

Well, the new equipment had finally all arrived at the Boards, and it was safe to say that Jono was even a touch excited about it. Hardly 'a kid on Christmas morning' levels of excitement. He seldom had that much in him to spare, really. But he was at least nearly smiling a bit as he worked on getting the soundboard hooked up in the booth, and then proceeded to make his way up onto the catwalks to make certain that the lights and microphones were all connected properly, as well.

It was another Pearl Jam day, but if anyone asked, Jonothon was going to tell them that he was simply using their music in order to iron out the kinks in the system.

Staring. Staaaaaaring.

"Showcase," she agreed, gratefully seizing the proferred segue. "So, um..." Huh. "You know, I totally can't remember my questions now."

Nice, Miley. Nice.

"They must've been important, then," Jono replied, crossing his arms over his chest. "Questions about what you need for the audition itself, perhaps? Or about th'show?"

"Yes! Both of those! That's totally the kind of thing I would ask!" That attention span of hers got her into trouble a lot was going to get her into trouble someday.

"So... what do I need for the audition?" she asked, skipping forward to lean over the front of the counter.

"Well... what do you want to do for th'showcase? We're not expecting anybody to have their numbers fully rehearsed or anything just yet, but if you want to sing, or dance, or arrange a skit or something, you'll want to at least have some material prepared so that you can demonstrate your talents, luv."

For the record, he'd never auditioned anyone for something like this in his life. But he was the musical director, so help him, and that was how he was going to go about this.

"Troy might hand you some script or something to read off of, perhaps, but considering this showcase is entirely about th'talents and traditions of th'people of Fandom, I wouldn't worry so much about that."

"I was thinking I'd sing something," she said thoughtfully, tilting her head. "Ooh, or maybe do a dance. Like, you know in meta for Mean Girls when they sing that Christmas song at the showcase? I could totally do that. But I'd need more people. Like Caroline and Juliet, ooh, or that guy from Rock Band that one time. He could totally sing. Or I could do a skit from Indiana Joannie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjCx5RH8i88). I totally love that movie. What do you think?"

Assuming he was able to get a word in, of course.

"Well, I haven't seen th'film," Jono noted, raising an eyebrow, "though somehow I doubt it's a holiday story."

He could be horribly wrong?

"But if you can gather up a group in time for the audition, that would be wonderful. For dancing, or singing, or... skits from Indiana Joannie. Whichever pleases yer little heart, Sunbeam."

"Oh. It's themed. Right." Way to crush her hopes and dreams, Jono. "I'll come up with something! Hey, I could always sing a Hannah Montana song..."

Because those were extra-special-subtle.

To his credit, Jono managed to refrain from dry-heaving at that suggestion.

"... She does holiday music?"

He didn't know these things. Hannah Montana was generally one of those things that had been banned from Groovy Tunes while he'd been in charge, there. And he'd performed important experiments regarding the flammability of such CDs whenever they arrived in a shipment by mistake.

Jono was... wondering how far Sheryl had to slip in order to end up stuck doing something like that.

Honestly, now.

"... Well, if doing a Hannah cover is what you've got your heart set on, then... I won't chase you back through th'door or anything. This showcase is about diversity, after all."

Though Hannah was slightly more diverse than he'd been hoping for.

"Awesome!" Miley exclaimed. "Thanks!" Proud of her foresight in keeping her secret identity cover, she decided, "Ooh, I should probably run to that music store to pick up one of her CDs. You know, to practice." That didn't even make any sense, Miley. "What's that store called again?"

Jonothon was now staring at Miley as if she'd grown a second head.

And having met people with more than one head before, it was perhaps slightly remarkable that the look suggested that he also thought that she was insane.

"... Groovy Tunes. You're honestly going to tell me that you've been here all this time, so interested in music, and you've never been?"

She was a pirate, wasn't she? Teenagers.

"Noooope," Miley confirmed. "I usually just, you know, use iTunes and stuff. Why? Is it really cool? Doesn't that grumpy girl work there?"

"My former roommate?" Oh, Jono. Sound a little more dry when you say that. "And one of my closest friends? As a matter of fact, I believe she does."

He'd be happy to offer some ketchup for that foot of yours any time, Miley.

Miley winced. And then kept on trucking. Like an idiot.

"You mean the one with the, uh, with the, uh, with the dad who's, uh..." No, Miley. Stop now. "I mean! Um! She's dating Jeremy! Right?" Please say wrong.

Jono squinted a little.

And then squinted a little more.

"She could be. Who she dates hasn't really been any of my business, though."

He was going to have to pay her a visit to catch up, today. And from there, he'd see if he had to pay this Jeremy bloke a visit to make certain that the fear of god was in him, should he hurt George at all.

"Then maybe it's someone different!" she proposed hopefully. "Blond hair? Says bad words?"

"Runs apathy club. Named George. Possibly actually the only female that works at Groovy Tunes."

So yes, Miley. Yes.

"Ooh." Miley winced. "Well. In that case, maybe I'll just stick to iTunes."

George scared her.

"... Because of George?"

For some reason, Jono was not catching the Miley-logic, here.

"You got it," she confirmed. "That'd be the reason."

"She did something to you, did she?"

Give him a better reason than 'because it's George,' Miley, and he wouldn't stand here deciding that you were a horrible person.

"Well," Miley said, attempting to sound logical and reasonable, "she freaks me out. And I heard on the radio she was breaking CDs. On purpose."

GASP.

Jono squinted a little more at that.

"I don't freak you out, but George, who I'll reiterate is actually a good friend of mine, does?" A pause. "Did radio say which CDs?"

She'd mentioned that she'd been destroying Hannah Montana, when she'd first visited him last week. Jono certainly couldn't judge her for that.
