Jonothon had managed to get his hands on coffee, this morning. Instant coffee, granted, that he'd thrown together while trying to juggle breakfast (cereal, quick and easy) and getting everything in order for ... whatever the hell these auditions were going to be like, considering the state of the weekend. He hadn't actually gotten around to getting any of it as far as his mouth, yet, but he suspected that he'd made the coffee strong enough to sit up and bark, and if that didn't floor him, it would probably be a good thing.

In the window of the Boards, he'd hung a sign:

FANDOM ISLAND WINTER SHOWCASE
Give the rest of the island a taste of your winter traditions from home!

And, hell, he'd even managed to get someone at Pizza Planet to answer the phone who was over the age of ten, so there was pizza set out on tables on one side of the lobby area. Tables which he'd laid tarp down under, because there was no way in hell he was going to clean those carpets already. The place had just finished renovations, after all.

[OCD is up! If you've got a small child for the day and you'd like to audition, anyone and everyone is welcome to, but please let us know in the OOC thread if you actually want a role or not!]

As she played, Jono leaned back, putting his coffee cup between his knees and clasping his hands behind his head, listening intently. Yes, for a child, she was bloody good at this. He was going to have to chase her down and ask if she still played, after the weekend was through.

And when she finished, he straightened up again and applauded.

"Well done, Sunshine. If you don't mind my asking, how long have you been playing?"

"Three years and four months," Rinoa said primly. "My mom used to teach me. Now it's a neighbor lady."

There was a flicker of a sad face, there, but she tried to look professional. She still missed her mom, though.

Jono nodded a little in understanding. Her mother, right...

"Well, it's good to see that you're still interested in learning," he said, a little more softly. "How about I give you a call back in a couple of days, Sunshine? Get you to play another number for me then, and we'll sort out what you'll be doing in th'showcase, hm?"

Rinoa bowed again, before biting her lip. "Is it okay if I use sheet music?" she asked. "I don't have a lot of songs memorized."

She could have more songs memorized before the recital-thing, but offhand, she didn't have any just yet.

"Of course," Jono replied, not quite able to bite back a chuckle. "I'm not going to hold it against you this early on, luv. Please, bring whatever you think you're going to need, alright?"

"All right," Rinoa said. "Does that mean I did it? That other boy said I had to win the audition in order to be in your recital thing. I said he was just jealous."

Rinoa's general maturity level ... really wasn't much different from her usual.

Jono bit down on the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing at that.

"Jealous, hm? Well, maybe you've given him a reason to be. You've done it, luv. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the showcase in December."

"Hooray!" Rinoa bounced excitedly, then rushed down from the stage. If Jono wasn't quick enough, he was going to be tackle-hugged by a very enthusiastic Sorceress-to-be. "I'll memorize the other song as fast as I can, I promise. Thank you thank you thank you!"

Really, by this point, Jono had just given up on trying to avoid the hugs, and was more or less resigned to burning the hell out of his hand with splashed coffee every time he had to pull an emergency relocation in order to account for one.

"You're welcome, luv."

Ow.

"And I'm sure you'll play it wonderfully, Rinoa."

"Thanks, blue guy," she said rapturously. "Wait, what's your real name?"

"I'm Jonothon," Jono replied, after taking a moment to pointedly not made a face at being called 'blue guy.' "Or Jono, if you'd rather. And my partner here is Troy."

Er... wherever Troy had gotten himself off to, this time.

"It's very nice to meet you, Mr. Jono," Rinoa said, disentangling from the bear hug. "Is Troy the kid who said I wasn't awesome? Tell him he sucks."

That in no way resembled anything that had actually happened in reality, so Jono should please ignore it.

"I'll be sure to pass on the message," Jono replied solemnly, idly wiping his coffee-burned hand on the leg of his jeans.

No, he probably wouldn't.
