Caritas- Tuesday

After seeing the paper, Kitty was definitely looking forward to Saturday, and really looking forward to hearing whatever details people had. So she was definitely in a better mood today, even if she was still going back and forth between the restaurant and bar.

She was also sort of hoping no one like, sang the plans to the loyalists or whatever, but she was going to have to cross her fingers on that one.

[Again, some SP at work but dude, I've got nothing better to do so ping.]

Just like every off-day from working at Wellspring, Coulson spent his day making supply drops for various resistance members so they could actually have ammunition for their weapons if necessary. But again, as always, that meant a day where he had no chance of getting some insider knowledge.

So when he needed some dinner, he went straight to the place that wore two faces as well as he did and took a seat in the lounge, where he could eavesdrop and/or just have food.

"I heard too much singing around town today, so definitely not music," Coulson said. "A grilled cheese with a side of fries would sound much better."

"Technically, I rapped it. I'm just a very bad rapper," Coulson joked.

"That's a shame. You could have discovered someone's true talent," Coulson offered.

"In that case, the important thing is that he's a good cook," Coulson said.

One of the first things Umbrage had done after taking total control was expelling Robin from the school. But he hadn't left the island. He was a determined little frog, and he was doubly determined not to give in.

He'd kept up his habit of singing protest songs for the inspiration and entertainment of others, just now he had to do it at secret venues.

Today it seemed that everyone was singing, which was kinda cool.

Right now he was softly strumming his guitar and singing one of his favorites:

"Come gather round people, Where ever you roam,
And admit that the waters around you have grown,
And you better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone...
"

Priestly finally braved the streets to make his way over to the backroom of Caritas, making good use of a completely unseasonable scarf to muffle his voice when he felt the urge to start singing.

By the time he made it, he was even more determined than when he'd left the apartment.

"Okay," he said when he got there. "I know I'm not technically 21 yet, but can I please have something with alcohol in it?"

Priestly perked up. "One's good. I can do one. I'm all for the no trouble from Umbridge."

Priestly had absolutely no idea. He'd had beer on rare occasions back at his old high school, but had otherwise spent his formative years under Umbridge's thumb.

"Rum," he decided. If it was good enough for the squirrels. . . . "And coke." Because he was pretty sure he was not up to drinking rum straight.

"Oh, you know, same old, same old." Which would be when he burst into song, yes. "This place is a prison. These people aren't our friends. There are no thrills unless you're taking Umbridge pills, or these tumblers are drained and then flooded again and again.

"There's guards at the onramps, armed to the teeth. You may case the grounds from the Preserve through Umbridge Town, but you are not permitted to leave. I know there's a big world out there like the one I saw on the screen in my living room late last night, it was almost too bright to see. I know that it's not a party if it happens every night. Pretending there's glamor and candleabras when you're sitting in the candlelight."

He cleared his throat. "Aaaand that's why I've been hiding in my apartment most of the day."

"I should be glad I'm still human," Priestly supposed. He took a sip of the drink and managed to only make a small face at the kick of alcohol. "Any secret to singing avoidance you can share, or are you just lucky?"

"Well, it'd better be done by tomorrow. I have a class to teach, and I can't seem to guarantee I'm not going to burst into revolutionary song."

"It can be very difficult to work under cover when you're singing what's on your mind uncontrollably," Priestly agreed. "We'll have to check the news extra close tomorrow, just to make sure."

Priestly shook his head. "Nothing yet. Haven't had a chance to head over and try to get the low-down. The island has some terrible timing. You'd almost think it wants Umbridge around."

"Are you kidding? They probably had an ensemble number about fluffy pink kittens frolicking in meadows."

"Of course we'd miss it. It'd be held in some secret subdungeon kabal. Of fluffy pink kittens."

"That would be doing something nice for the rest of us. That's probably explicitly against the rules, somewhere."

"Sure. We'll throw a whole party around it."
