Caritas- Friday

Well, it had finally happened: Kitty didn't really care about the Olympics anymore.

There was a silent battle raging behind the bar between Tino, who apparently was still into track and field or rhythm gymnastics or something and kept turning it on in the back room, and Kitty, who kept changing it to anything else.

It was Friday night and things at the bar were thrilling, obviously.

"A bottle of red," Jaime called cheerfully. Because he was drinking away the pain of teaching not just one squire, but many of them. Many of them who had strange ideas about how royalty worked.

"Don't be too discouraged," Tyrion told him easily enough. "The semester's almost over, and then we'll get a whole new batch."

"All I can think is that even those frozen Northerners would eat these children alive at court."

Poor, deluded Ned Stark. A man of honor, at least.

Tyrion snorted. "That bad? Gods, I hope you smacked it out of their heads."

Tyrion, we don't hit children.

Jaime lifted the false hand thoughtfully. "I suppose a good knock might set them straight."

CASUAL ABUSE. WESTEROS, PEOPLE.

Tyrion tilted his head at the hand. "And it wouldn't damage the hand, would it? I'm not sure where you'd get a fresh one fitted."

Re: Bar

Jaime's smile turned wane for a moment before he visibly roused himself from the memories. "To tell the truth, I hate the damned thing."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Tyrion bowed his head, looked up at an angle. "Sorry," he muttered. "You don't have to wear it, you know."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] givehimahand.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I know that, brother," Jaime replied softly. And yet he did. It was a reminder what he had done to both his brother and father. One that would not fail to keep him humble.

Even if no one else knew it.

"But how will I keep a shield on my arm without it?"

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Tyrion could tell there was something more behind the soft weight of those words. He just wasn't sure he was in a mood to ask questions he didn't want the answers to.

"Ah. We aren't in the middle of a siege," he pointed out lightly. "You might leave the shield behind."

Questions that Jaime could never bring himself to answer a second time around.

"If we are accosted on our way home, you have no one to blame but yourself."

Re: Bar

Tyrion shrugged, sighed manfully. "Kick me toward them and I'll bite their ankles or throw gold at them, whichever seems likely to make them go away faster."

"Ah, the proper Lannister response," Jaime replied. "I've missed it here."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Tyrion smiled quickly. "I haven't changed that much," he promised. "I've gone a bit native" -- e.g., the phone he checked every 15 seconds just in case -- "but I haven't lost my head."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] givehimahand.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Native? Next thing you know, I will find you on one of those terrible programs on the television."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Tyrion blanched. "I'm not that bad," he said. "I can't figure out how they find people for them, anyhow."

"They're almost as entertaining as a good fool." A beat. "Almost."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Not much chance of finding a fool on the island," Tyrion told him. "Not a paid one, at least."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] givehimahand.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
"No wonder the television holds so much of their attention."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmmm," Tyrion agreed, and let the wine bring some warmth to his bones and to his face. "Do you like it here?"

He couldn't tell, which made him suspect the answer might be no.

"I enjoy the company," Jaime settled on. That was almost diplomatic!

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
For Jaime? That was extremely so. "Ah. Well, if the island lets you leave, please tell me before you rush home."

He sipped his wine again. "I enjoy your company too, by the way. But you knew that."

"I'm certain that will change if my brother has any say in the matter," he replied with a smile.

Jaime kindly placed a gold dragon on the bar, pushing it over to her. "Do keep the wine flowing."

"Is that near the Summer Isles?" Look, he could make a joke about his own ignorance of this world.

Re: Bar

[identity profile] givehimahand.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Jaime smiled at that, toasting with the bottle of wine rather than attempt pouring. It wouldn't do to spill so soon in the evening. "I've always wanted to go there."

"What my brother is having," Tyrion added cheerily.

What, you expected Lannisters to share?

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm more memorable," Tyrion said dryly, and jerked his thumb toward the man in question. "Jaime. He's been on the island the last month and a bit. He has a twin, but our sister's unlikely to join us."

Tyrion dearly, dearly hoped he was right about this, though watching the island make Cersei cry might be mildly amusing for a week or two.

"It's a 'my brother's class is making him insane' night," Tyrion agreed with a nod, and filled his own cup.

Much better.

"What about you, any siblings at home?"

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I might have liked that," Tyrion decided. "I always wanted to travel more than I could, anyhow. It's no matter, there aren't schools of that kind at home."

Re: Bar

[identity profile] halfman-lion.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Depends on who your parents are," Tyrion answered. "Either the maester for your house teaches you, or the septa does if you're a girl, or you get apprenticed out. Or no one bothers with it at all."
