The boardwalk- Wednesday afternoon

When the opportunity came to hang out with your alternate universe de-aged ex-teammate before he left the island, you took it. Kitty got to the boardwalk early, figuring she could use a little bit of time to check the place out since she'd somehow never been here yet, and also because any time spent out of her apartment was a good distraction. (Shut up.)

Plus she'd been able to figure out that there were funnel cakes and ice cream here. Because you couldn't deprive Iceman of his ice cream, come on.

Likewise, when one had the chance to hang out with their alternate-universe up-aged (was that a word?) ex-and-probably-future teammate, it was only right to take it.

And the ice cream. Of course.

"Ugh," he announced. "I am so done with packing, I tell you. Never moving again." ...Right, Bobby.

"Is that how like when people say they're never drinking again, and then they do it a week later anyway?" Kitty asked.

Well, moving probably took longer than a week.

"I dunno," Bobby mused. "Because it's really kinda the opposite, isn't it? Drinking's all well and great while it's happening, but it's the aftermath most people have issues with," unless they possessed the ability to purge and re-make the individual molecules of their body by drawing moisture from the air, but not actually the point. "Whereas moving's all total and complete crap until the end bit when everything's done."

She frowned. "I still have a couple boxes from moving here in November shoved in a closet," she said. "I don't know that you're ever really done."

Or she could just unpack those boxes already, whatever.

"Wait, that's probably not encouraging mid-move, is it?"

"Not especially, no." he made a face at her.

"Sorry," she said, trying not to smile. "How much do you have left?"

"Here? Pretty much just Thor's- uh, that's my rabbit, I don't mean the guy who's apparently teaching here- stuff and a couple changes of clothes." He shrugged. "There's a bunch of stuff at my parents', still, though, from the last time I stayed with them."

"Oh. I thought you were buried in boxes or something," she admitted. "...You named your rabbit Thor?"

No, he just liked to whine.

"Yeah," Bobby nodded. "He's a cool guy. I mean, he can totally be scary when he wants to be but he also saved my life, like, twice. So I figure naming a bunny after him is a fitting tribute." ... Somehow.

"I like that," Kitty decided. "I'm sure the one here would love to know he has a bunny namesake."

Don't encourage the brain break, Kitty.

"If I actually see him because for some reason they'd never seemed to be in the same place at the same time before I head out, maybe I'll let him know," Bobby decided.

[throughaphase]

"Cool," she said, and asked, "Have you been here before? I think I've found all the important things to check out."

"I have not," Bobby shook his head. "Which is sad, because if I'd known they had ice cream..." of course he'd spotted that first. OF COURSE.

[throughaphase]

"Here I was thinking we were this close to funnel cakes the whole time and never knew it," she said, starting over towards the ice cream. "That's just not right."

[longislandiceme]

"Well, we'll need some of those too, obviously," Bobby decided. Because food! Especially sugar-laden food.

"Probably one right on top of the other," she said thoughtfully. "Two great things, you might as well combine them."

"Anyone ever tell you you're kind of a genius, Pryde?" Bobby said with a grin.

... Probably yes, actually.

"I'm just focused on getting the best delicious sugar high possible," she smiled. "Which won't be a mistake in an hour, oh no."

"Pff," Bobby scoffed. "We should just live in the moment."

[throughaphase]

"I can do that," she decided, looking over her menu choices. "Know what you want?"

Sadly, "all of them" was not a choice, and so Bobby ended up with some sort of chocolate-mint-cookie-dough monstrosity.

...At least he wouldn't have to worry about it going all melty on him?

"So," he managed. "How's- how're you liking it here? You said you got here in November, right?" November had been... kind of a bad time, so if she'd been here before he left, he had no idea.

Kitty was just going straight vanilla ice cream just to double the whole thing in size on toppings alone. She was practiced at this sort of thing.

"I don't think I'm ever going to get used to knowing half the people I run into before I've actually met them," she said, and she swore that made sense, "but I like it. No one's accused me of anything bad just because I'm a mutant since I got here, which is a step up from what I'm used to."

"That is pretty sweet," Bobby had to admit. "... So why am I going home again?"

Because it was, for all its crap, still home. Kind of like the X-Team itself.

"Because you graduated and they make you," Kitty replied. "Where are you off to, anyway? Xavier's?"

[longislandiceme]

Well he probably could've stuck around if he wanted to: graduates coming back to work here was kind of becoming a thing.

"Yeah," he nodded. "Sookie's coming too- my girlfriend. Not sure if you've met her?"

[throughaphase]

She had seen her that one time... Kitty thought it wise not to bring that up, though.

"Not really," she said. "So I guess that's a serious thing, huh?"

"She's put up with me this long," Bobby said fondly. Unlike, well. Any of his canon girlfriends ever.

"Brave girl," Kitty teased.

[longislandiceme]

"You're not wrong," Bobby had to admit with a grin.

"Okay, so tell me about her," Kitty said. "Since I've never met her and who knows when I'll get to."

"Well, I'm sure we'll be coming back for Homecoming," Bobby pointed out. "But anyway- blonde, gorgeous, amazing cook, one of the most caring people I know... and not a mutant, but she is a telepath. She's also got this lightning-thing she can do with her hands that's pretty badass."

"That's got to be so nice to have when people are being annoying," Kitty mused.

Okay, she'd talked out her anger issues but that didn't mean she had to get rid of them entirely.
