Homecoming Brunch, The Park, Sunday Morning

Worried that all the glitter on the island had been used up at the dance or at yesterday's festivities? Worry no more! Because today's brunch possibly featured more glitter than the previous two days combined, though someone very intelligent had made it so that most of the glitter was located on signs and posters conveniently located out of most children's reach. Because no one wanted kids eating glitter.

The music was wolf-themed but quiet and non-scary enough to be kid-friendly. Though maybe it hadn't been the best idea to overinflate those wolf-shaped balloons.

"Oh. You gotta milkshake?" Momoko calmed down a bit. Milkshakes were almost gooder than festivals. "That's good. I got one too. Did you meet lotsa people on your walk?"

Jan would have answered, except right in the middle of her question a rare and unusual babel gremlin came up and bit him on the ankle. "Ow," he whined, leaning over and hitching up his pants leg to inspect it. "That hurt. What was it? Am I bleeding?"

"Ah!" Momoko jumped up and threw... well, threw her cookies at the gremlin. "GO AWAY! STUPID GREMLIN! GO AWAY!"

She ran out of cookies and turned back to the boy. "Are you okay? Stupid mean gremlin." She reached down and picked up a clump of grass and threw it in the direction of the gremlin.

"I think so," Jan said, still rubbing his ankle. "Except you wasted all those cookies."

It had not yet occurred to him that anything had changed; he was more concerned by the wasted cookies.

"He was attacking you. Imma hero, so I had to stop him." After the fact, yes. "'Sides, there's more. And cakes, too."

She gave his ankle a concerned look. "Want me to go get a growned-up? I can find Jaime? He can fix anything and he helps me when I fall."

Jan shook his head. "I think I'll be all right. But please can you get me a slice of cake? And what kind of hero are you?"

Momoko went and fetched the cake, slowly walking back to the boys and bringing a plate with different slices on it. "I wasn't sure which kind so I brought lots." She set the plate down and sat beside it.

"And I'm a hero-hero. You know." She shrugged. "I help people and stop bad guys. My team stopped a evil cook yesterday from locking people up and ruining the festival and when anyone needs help, I do my best and try to help!"

... "Ah! Was I talking too fast again? Sorry!"

Jan shook his head. "You were easier to understand this time," he said, mouth crammed full of cake.

He swallowed. "That's amazing. Can anybody be a hero? I wanna be one too."

"Yep! You hafta be really good and like lots and lots of people. Even mean ones. 'Cause just cause they're mean doesn't mean they're bad. And you gotta practice lots. Like climbing and running."

Jan nodded seriously. "I can climb really really high," he told her. "And I like about everybody. I just need to work on running."

"Jumping's good! I don't jump too high, so you can help me!" Momoko reached for a piece of the cake. "You can join my team! We already gots one boy, so it's okay. We can practice more after we eat. And go onna patrol!"
