Outside Diamond in the Rough, Sunday Noon
Karolina van Dean (yes, it had been 'von' yesterday, but did you really think spelling was something anyone was keeping track of?) was not satisfied with how her plans were going right now. She hadn't gotten much besides fun out of her little fling with that amnesiac dolt Bruce yesterday, and the clock was ticking. Counting down to what exactly was a mystery, but there was always something important on the horizon.
Like that wedding she'd heard talk of sometime off-screen. That was definitely a place for Karolina van Dean to be: it was just the kind of gathering of influential people she needed in her life right now. But she needed to look the part, so she was gazing dramatically at the window of the jewelry store, considering going in and seducing her way into being given something extravagant to wear.
Or she could sweet talk a hapless passerby into buying one for her. She looked around, hoping to spot a rich-looking gentleman or lady to strike up a conversation with.
[open! duh.]

That was on his mind as he passed Karolina on the street, hands tucked in his pockets and face pensive and very, very thoughtful (oh so thoughtful) as he walked by her.
no subject
A dramatic pause later, she called out, "You're looking thoughtful."
What an astute observation!
no subject
Maybe that was why she thought he looked thoughtful. He kept looking thoughtful, after all. Obviously, he was being written so well.
"A guy can't just walk?"
no subject
no subject
"There's a lot to think about." Like the lack of fires to fight and distract himself with! "And a lot to look at."
Like her, of course. he was still a guy with needs!
no subject
"A lot to experience," Karolina nodded, like she'd just said something profound. "See, it makes perfect sense to be thoughtful."
no subject
They were gonna kill the word thoughtful during this scene. But, Jim had stopped walking and she did have his attention now.
"What're you thinking about?"
no subject
Had she really gotten through a line without saying 'thoughtful'? Progress!
no subject
"You getting married?" he asked, memories of another life and a meaner, more cruel Jim not objecting to being the other man in a relationship.
no subject
"Not this time," she replied, almost a little wistfully. Sure, she hadn't loved any of her husbands (or the occasional wife), but she liked weddings. And taking their money. "Just a guest. But I have high hopes for the future."
no subject
"You should just stay away from it all," he said. "Go in for yourself. That's the best way."
Not really the way for a fireman to talk. Was he starting to crack?
no subject
"Oh but I always go in for myself. Always."
no subject
It didn't but that smirk was interesting. What was going on behind her overly make-upped face?
no subject
Maybe the lack of acting talent explained the skimpy clothes. "Oh, darling, who says you have to stay married once you get what you want? There's no rule like that!"
no subject
He was a fireman, after all!
no subject
no subject
Not his style. Making people bow to his whi -- NO THAT WAS THE OTHER SIDE OF HIM. He was losing it. Losing himself. Or had he ever been himself? It was all so hard!
no subject
Which meant that even people on the other end of the street knew she meant sex.
no subject
He'd gotten bigger diamonds quicker than the one this woman was gawking at. "You should know that betraying me in anyway isn't good..."
Just in case she was thinking of that. JUST IN CASE!
no subject
And she was immune to the poison herself.
"Now why would I be thinking of that?" she cooed. "I just need a little trinket, that's all."
no subject
He would get her diamond and then he would take payment and be on his way. Maybe.

Ten minutes later, he appeared with the diamond dangling from one finger.
"Your necklace," he said, smirking proudly. He'd given up on making up stories on how a fireman would know how to do get a diamond so easily and without so much as speck of blood on him.
no subject
"I'm impressed," she purred, reaching for the necklace.
no subject
"I think I'll take my payment first," he said, drawl fully in effect as the last vestiges of his current life seemed to fall away. Being a fireman had been dumb anyway.
no subject
"Well, I suppose I can respect you being a man of principle."
no subject
"Let's go." Because he was getting what he wanted before she got what she wanted.
no subject
"You lead the way."
Just beware the poison lipstick, Jim.
no subject
With a sly smirk, he started to lead them off somewhere a little more private. He'd get some pleasure and she'd get her diamond and maybe he'd think about using her in the future.
What would happen? ONLY TIME WOULD TELL!
