Outside Diamond in the Rough, Sunday Noon

Karolina van Dean (yes, it had been 'von' yesterday, but did you really think spelling was something anyone was keeping track of?) was not satisfied with how her plans were going right now. She hadn't gotten much besides fun out of her little fling with that amnesiac dolt Bruce yesterday, and the clock was ticking. Counting down to what exactly was a mystery, but there was always something important on the horizon.

Like that wedding she'd heard talk of sometime off-screen. That was definitely a place for Karolina van Dean to be: it was just the kind of gathering of influential people she needed in her life right now. But she needed to look the part, so she was gazing dramatically at the window of the jewelry store, considering going in and seducing her way into being given something extravagant to wear.

Or she could sweet talk a hapless passerby into buying one for her. She looked around, hoping to spot a rich-looking gentleman or lady to strike up a conversation with.

[open! duh.]

"And what do I get if I get you that diamond necklace?" Jim asked, raising an eyebrow at her. He wasn't gonna do something for nothing, after all.

Not his style. Making people bow to his whi -- NO THAT WAS THE OTHER SIDE OF HIM. He was losing it. Losing himself. Or had he ever been himself? It was all so hard!

"Is that right?" Hmm. A part of his brain was working overtime, slowly molding this situation into one that would suit him in the long run.

He'd gotten bigger diamonds quicker than the one this woman was gawking at. "You should know that betraying me in anyway isn't good..."

Just in case she was thinking of that. JUST IN CASE!

"Because I know people who would take advantage of the kindness of strangers," he said oh so menacingly. "And it would be the last thing you would do. Trust me."

He would get her diamond and then he would take payment and be on his way. Maybe.

Jim gave her one, long, very, very intense stare before he disappeared inside the shop. There was silence for a very long time. Jim didn't do messy work. He knew how to be silent and incredibly dangerous.

Ten minutes later, he appeared with the diamond dangling from one finger.

"Your necklace," he said, smirking proudly. He'd given up on making up stories on how a fireman would know how to do get a diamond so easily and without so much as speck of blood on him.

Jim pulled his arm back and shook his head. Uh uh.

"I think I'll take my payment first," he said, drawl fully in effect as the last vestiges of his current life seemed to fall away. Being a fireman had been dumb anyway.

Jim slid the necklace into one of his pockets and patted it.

"Let's go." Because he was getting what he wanted before she got what she wanted.

Many had tried to kill Jim. All had failed.

With a sly smirk, he started to lead them off somewhere a little more private. He'd get some pleasure and she'd get her diamond and maybe he'd think about using her in the future.

What would happen? ONLY TIME WOULD TELL!
