Caritas- Tuesday

The last few years had been pretty depressing at the holidays for Kitty, so it felt kind of great to actually be excited about it for once. That meant today was decorating day. Tasteful stuff, like garland and lights, and it was totally still tasteful if at least one of the zombies was wearing some garland, because sometimes Kitty got carried away, okay.

Garland on the zombies was totally festive.

Kitty's even wearing clothes this week.

Okay, so there were leather pants but at least she was covered up!

Clint would notice the leather pants eventually, but the decorations got his attention first. "Tell me you're not going to drape the zombies with lights too?" he asked, coming up to the bar. "That has to be a fire hazard."

"No, but my reasoning was that all the cords might make it harder to play their instruments," Kitty admitted. "They're at a disadvantage as it is."

See, she was being kind!

"If I stay for too long, are you going to try to decorate me?" Clint teased. "I'm allergic to tinsel, I'm warning you right now."

"But you'd look so good in it!" Kitty said, feigning a pout.

"I am not a Christmas tree. For one thing, I'm not nearly tall enough," Clint pointed out.

"I've known some extremely tall people who still wouldn't be okay with that," Kitty admitted. "Okay, fiiiine. Go undecorated."

She was smiling, though, so clearly she was very upset by his not being a Christmas tree.

"I have to admit, I didn't think you'd be making the place so festive," Clint said. "But it does look nice, I'm impressed."

"It's the first year in a while the holidays haven't been completely sad. I'm capitalizing on my good mood," Kitty explained. "Drink?"

"Sure, I'll take a beer," Clint said as he sat down. "I don't think it's possible for holidays to go by without sucking at least a little. But I'm glad things sound better than usual?"

"Definitely," she said, getting his beer and giving it to him. "The last few years were kind of rough. But this year the death count and amount of personal injuries were minimal, and I've got you. I'm good."

Clint smiled softly at that. "You should definitely work on keeping the personal injuries down. I like you whole and unharmed," he said. "And having you around is making me dread the holidays a lot less, so I guess the feeling's mutual."

"Oh, dreading the holidays. That doesn't sound good," Kitty noted.

"Okay, maybe 'dreading' was too strong of a word. It's just not a time I usually look forward to. I've worked right through Christmas most of the last few years," Clint explained with a shrug. "Wanting to actually take some time to celebrate is unusual, but I like it."

"You should," Kitty smiled. "Do I even want to know what had you working through Christmas?"

Clint shrugged. "Something different every year," he said vaguely, since most of what he did was definitely things he couldn't tell Kitty about. "Honestly, I usually volunteered. Better me than someone with a family and kids who need a visit from Santa and all, right?"

"But none of that this year, right?" she checked. "Sue me, I think you should actually get to enjoy it."

Technically, Clint was always working, but again, Kitty didn't need to know that. "Not this year. You've already laid claim to me, right?"

"Ooh, I didn't realize I had that kind of power," Kitty grinned. "This can go nowhere good."

"I don't know, to me I don't see how it could go anywhere bad," Clint said. "Except I have to figure out what kind of present to get you. Or presents? That's how Hanukkah goes, right?"

"Not that you have to get me anything, but one's fine." Since she'd also been trying to figure out a Clint appropriate gift herself... "When do we want to do all that, anyway? Like how much time are we giving ourselves here?"

"Well, when were you planning on going home?" Clint asked. "We could do it sometime then? Or before? I'm really easy. About this," he added quickly.

"Well, it starts on Saturday, so I was thinking next weekend? We get the holiday, you met to meet my mom, and we get some time to do stuff," she said. Which didn't give a lot of time shoppingwise, she knew.

Luckily, Clint had already been thinking about potential items for Kitty. "Next weekend would be great. Any weekend away from the island seems like a smart idea."

"Tell me about it," she said, not believing that the island would hit them with weirdness in the middle of the week twice in a row. "Okay, so we can do it then. Which brings me to the next thing: hotel, or do we chance it at Mom's?"

She had a feeling she knew what the answer would be.

"Can I request a hotel?" Clint asked. "I mean, if you want to spend time with your mom, I understand, and I'll stay wherever she wants me to. But a hotel means a place to escape to if things get awkward."

"I'm so glad you said that. I wasn't looking forward to the talk of whether or not I can have a boy in my room," Kitty smiled. "Especially when my room is the guest room."

"Well, if you're going to be staying in a guest room anyway, it might as well be a nice room, right?" Clint pointed out. "One where I'm automatically welcome."

"And if would be nice to actually be able to sleep together on our first trip..." Priorities.

That was a good priority, but Clint was a little more caught on the idea of this being their first trip, like there would be more. "For all the possible meanings of 'sleep,'" he teased.

"Maybe I actually meant sleep," Kitty said.

She didn't. Though that was a plus.

In case garland makes you nervous or something, idk.

It's lining the TV, too, just saying.
