Devil's Nest, Friday Evening

Last night's movie scores became tonight's Broadway Soundtracks. Allie wasn't sure if she should be surprised that Tiny knew the words to everything the DJ played. It wasn't too bad, until he started caterwauling along to a song about midnight and the moon losing its memory.

It was almost enough to make Allie miss being a bat.

"Are you, now!" Not that Éponine would ever file away knowledge like that in case it was useful someday. Really. "That's a useful sort of friend to have. It's funny, too, but there's so many things about this place that don't at all work the way I'm used to."

"Either that or they're far more patient about waiting to collect on what they want than I'd have realized." In some ways Éponine hadn't yet stopped expecting the other shoe to drop.

It was harder to justify taking advantage of people, even if it was for things she needed and couldn't get otherwise, it she acknowledged that maybe they weren't as bad as all that, in general.

"Kaidan struck me that way, but it seemed too good to be true." Éponine looked at her curiously. "You've never expected anything of me, and neither has Jack, nor Kitty, nor Kenzi, and I can't help thinking that either you will soon, or there's something very wrong with all of you," she concluded with a bewildered laugh.

Honestly, that was the easiest way for her to think about it, so Éponine was willing to go with that explanation too.

"Completely mad, the lot of you," she informed Allie solemnly. "Everyone on this damned island, I'm beginning to think."
