Caritas- Tuesday

It occurred to Kitty that if this teaching thing actually worked out, she might have to start doing things like making sure she wore all her clothes to her night job. She was pretty okay with that, too; she'd outgrown a lot of the reasons she'd taken to wearing that stuff to begin with. At the very least certain items, mainly anything where Clint's response had been "Aren't you cold?" or "Is that actually a shirt?", should probably be retired.

After she wore them one more time. What, she didn't feel the need to look respectable yet.

So tonight was seeing the return of the shirt that, no, was totally not actually a shirt, per se. And while she'd learned that this was not the kind of outfit where she could do inventory in it, she could make Tino do things like that while she'd just make sure the bar was in working order.

With the shirt that wasn't.

"Hey Kitty I need--" Whatever it is could wait because shirt. "Holy shit."

Stiles, stop, she was like your sister.

At least Kitty was fairly oblivious? "What?" she asked, looking a little worried.

"You're like naked!" Stiles said, not even trying to avert his eyes. "I mean, I'm not complaining or anything..."

"I am not," she protested. "It covers everything important."

Apparently her entire back was not important.

"Like I said, I'm not complaining," Stiles said. "Though I forget what I was going to ask for now."

"You'll remember it," Kitty said. "What can I get you?"

Keep it clean, brother figure.

"Beer, please," he said. "Doesn't matter which kind. I'm a teenager, I'm used to drinking crap beer."

"And see, I'm used to teenagers- and college students- ordering the crap beer and thinking it's the good stuff," Kitty said, getting him one and sliding it over. "Which is really sad, and that's coming from someone who doesn't drink much."

"We take what we can get and then we get used to it and trick ourselves into thinking it's good," he said before taking a sip of his beer. "How're things?"

"Happily unawkward," she said thoughtfully. "How about you?"

"Still awkward, but slightly less awkward than last week," Stiles said, shaking his head. "I can't even really spare time to think about it 'cause, as per usual, shit is going down at home."

He quickly added, "Nothing immediately life threatening yet."

"Yet," she repeated. Sigh, Beacon Hills, get it together. "What's going on?"

"A pack of alphas came to town a few months ago," Stiles said. "Don't ask me how that works because I don't know. They took two of our werewolf pals and almost tried to take a third. He escaped but they took away his memories."

"...alphas can take away memories, apparently." Yeah that sounded ridiculous to him too.

Well it was a little ridiculous. "Of course they do. Which means something ill-advised and dangerous is going to be happening next?" Kitty guessed.

"Probably!" That was how Beacon Hills rolled. "But nothing's set in stone. I am going back this weekend 'cause I got invited to a girl's birthday party."

He looked ridiculously happy about this.

By now Kitty automatically figured anytime he went home something horrible would happen, but she could be happy that he was happy. "Do we like this girl?" she grinned.

"Yes, we do," Stiles said, smiling. "I've known Heather forever; we went to nursery school together. We went to different schools in Beacon Hills, but we kept in touch on Facebook. She's really sweet, and pretty and normal."

Normal might've been important here.

"We definitely like normal," said Kitty, who wasn't normal but could appreciate it anyway. "Good. And you deserve a little fun by now."

Stiles nodded in agreement. "I'm taking Scott with me. The guy needs to move on from his ex and I need to move on from Lydia."

And anything to help him move on from the weekend that shall not be spoken of would be helpful.

"I think I'm gonna ask Derek to help me pick out something to wear." Oh that was sure to go well.

"Oh, that sounds like a great plan," Kitty smiled. "You two talking again, I'm guessing?"

"Sort of. I'm supposed to be giving him space," Stiles said. "I took it to mean that I should be away from the house more? But apparently that's not the kind of space he wants."

Derek was a confusing teenage girl, yes.

Kitty paused.

"...Meaning you're fine to be around as long as he can still repress?" she guessed.

"I guess so?" He didn't understand it either, Kitty. "I'm kind of impressed that the thought of being with me is that disgusting to him."

And this was why she wanted Derek to talk to him.

"I'm sure he doesn't think that," Kitty told him. "It's just freaky, seeing yourself like that. People just sometimes react to it in weird ways."

"Well this is the weirdest I've ever seen him." He suggested Stiles should start a flower garden in his yard, Kitty! "Whatever, him being weird is better than not talking to me at all."

"He'll come around," Kitty told him. "Probably on his own special Derek time, but he'll get there. Or I'll kick him, either one."

"No kicking. I told Derek that nobody would harass him over this," Stiles said. "We have to let him work out his weird issues on his own. No matter how stupid that is."

"I can do that," Kitty said, actually kind of impressed that they'd gotten to that point. Go, boys. "Can I kick him for being obnoxious last week, though?"

"That's your perogative," Stiles said. "I can't stop you from doing what you feel is right."

"Yay," she smiled. "I mean, I probably won't, but I like knowing that the option is there."

"I'm sure Mr. Barton would support kicking," he said. "Might even join in."

"I'd rather keep Mr. Barton away from things like Derek-kicking, if possible," Kitty replied. "I think he'd enjoy it just a little too much."

"He really would," Stiles agreed. "I still don't get all the animosity there."

"I don't either," Kitty admitted. "On either part. I wish they'd at least truce it out and pretend to play nice."

"I think it might be too late for that," he said. "The stubbornness goes deep."

"Probably," she frowned. "I think Clint would try if I asked him to, but he'd hate it so much that I don't think it'd be fair to ask."

"Maybe you should lock them in a closet together." Yeah he heard about that.

Kitty shook her head. "First, that is what happens when Derek is being frustrating," she said. "Second, they'd kill each other."

"Or they would put aside their hatred and team up to escape." Which would take Derek all of two seconds with the werewolf strength.

"The closet's probably not a great idea in this case," Kitty mused. "Maybe yelling."

Sometimes I think I play up the outfits too much. Then I read old comics that have her going on a date with (of course) an older guy in fishnets and a miniskirt at 14 and go "Nope, not too much."
