Caritas, Friday Evening

There was a stripper pole on the stage at Caritas. Nope, Mike had no idea where it had come from. He also took forever to realize it was there. Or maybe to realize he should've been surprised to see it from the corner of his eye. Hey, he'd spent a lot of time in various strip joints back in Tampa. It seemed like a perfectly ordinary object to him! Bar-appropriate!

Tino was eyeing the pole a lot more varily.

Especially after Mike threatened to show off moves a lady stripper friend had tried to teach him once.

It was Jaina's first night on the job, and she was more than a little nervous. What if they didn't like her? What if they wanted her to take off everything? She had standards! But she needed the money, and she needed to shake up her life somehow. Maybe if she stripped, she wouldn't be depressed all the time!

Because that was totally how that worked.

So starting off with a cowgirl outfit, Jaina took the stage and slowly started peeling off layers to finally reveal the tiny bikini on underneath. It was like she was a natural, really. She was even able to work the pole like an expert, even in stripper heels, and it was only her first night!

(To be fair, Jaina was probably athletic enough to manage the pole just fine normally.)

After her show, Jaina took to the lounge with a drink, still wearing her bikini, and found a place to sit and watch things. That had been amazing! And kind of empowering, actually! And she didn't feel so sad now!

Obviously this was the best life choice she had ever made, and she was just going to have to keep doing it.

"...Why the hell is some girl stripping in my bar?"

It was, in fact, a valid question for Kitty to have.

It was, Mike agreed. He still looked amused. "I have no idea," he volunteered honestly. "You've got to give it to her, though, she's not half bad."

"No, but that's not the point," Kitty said. "Why is there a pole?"

Mike shrugged. Ever so helpful.

"No clue. It was there when I got here."

"I'm going to blame a Fandom thing and then ask for something alcoholic."

Well it was actually a Fandom thing, yes.

Mike snickered, but went to get her a drink anyway. Because he was a good employee, even if he wasn't taking this entirely seriously.

"It's most definitely a Fandom thing. That, or we have another bartender trying to hint at something."

Like the need to turn Caritas into a strip club.

"I hope not. I feel weird enough sometimes with freshmen being able to drink here, I don't need sexual harassment lawsuits that come with Tino being around strippers," she admitted. "That can fall to Eric."

And hey, Jaina already worked at that bar!

"Omigod, you're so hot it's probably illegal in ten states," Kara announced. "Can I have a strawberry daquiri, sweetie?"

Mike smirked at that. It was not the first time he'd gotten that greeting. He knew the appropriate reaction was a smirk and a polite nod.

"Sure thing, miss."

"Oh, you called me miss," Kara squealed, pulling out a twenty. "Keep the change."

"Everything's gonna be fine," Mike promised as he slid her drink over. It had enough alcohol, he was sure of it. "Well. Fandom-style fine."

"Thank you, I was raised polite."

Liar. Most of it was natural niceness couple with years of customer service in an industry where he really needed people to find him irresistible. But the end result was the same!

"Plus you were a stripper for a while," Kara added, "and you probably saw women like me allllll the time."

Derek had more than one job, it would seem. Because paying for college--it was still college, right? Right--was tough when you were ridiculously good looking and brooded a lot.

So, that would be why there was a very athletic werewolf working that pole. We won't go too into detail because that would be tedious to write. Very tedious. Needless to say, it was athletic.

And hot.

"Good," she said, taking the drink. "Sorry if I sound crabby. Any day I spent walking into walls tends to be a bad one."

Oh just wait for the rest of your weekend, Kitty.

Mike raised one eyebrow a little bit. His stripper past had been on the radio a time or two, sure, but did strangers know about it now? Maybe she was just a really avid radio listener. Or maybe it was part of the current Fandom thing.

"I'm not at liberty to discuss that," he quipped with another easy smirk, in any case. "Secrets of the trade."

Mike stared. Like, a lot. Because he felt like his brain was trying to lie to him about what he was seeing.

But then he decided to believe it was true.

And then, he snickered and applauded Derek because he was a terrible person at heart, really.

"... Why have you been walking into walls?"

He could think of at least two options, though both felt unlikely.
