The Beach, Saturday afternoon

It was a sunny, summer Saturday afternoon. It was pretty much required that the former vampire, now newly human Allie put on a bikini, grab an iced coffee to go and head to the beach to work on her tan.

She made sure to wear a hat and put on plenty of sunscreen. She didn't want to burn as she appreciated the sun.

After the confusing... whatever with radio and the confusing... whatever with Derek, Kaidan badly needed his twice-postponed jog.

Sadly for him, that jog took him straight to the beach, where-- "Allie?!?" ... he was running right downhill to help her out before she burned to a crisp.

"Kaidan! Hi!" Allie said cheerfully. "Don't panic. I remembered sunscreen."

"Sunscreen?"

Kaidan was using up a whole lot of emotion today that he usually kept pent up. "Allie, you're a vampire."

"Was a vampire," she reminded him. "But we got lucky and fixed that."

During sweeps week. It was really good for the ratings.

"...Since when?"

Wait. Now he was starting to remember.

"I mean. You look good."

"Thanks," Allie smiled. "I'm trying to work on getting to lightly tanned instead of undead pale, all while avoiding lobster red."

"You should join me when you're done with your run."

"I've got time now," Kaidan said, walking down the beach towards her.

Allie slid over to make room on her beach towel. No need for Kaidan to sit on the sand after all.

"I'm going to miss this when I leave for school in a few weeks."

The beach? The company?

Kaidan sat down on the towel next to her. There were just a few inches between them. And a little bit of tension.

"It's going to be rough without you," he admitted.

A tension that made her lean in his direction just the slightest bit.

"There's Skype," Allie pointed out. "And Boston's not that far away. You could come up for a visit."

"I'll try. If I ever get leave again," Kaidan said. "I... you know what the Alliance is like."

"I do. And I know it's important to you." Just like learning was important to her. It was horrible being noble and making sacrifices. But at least they still had a few more weeks. "Just don't get hurt."

Kaidan reached for her hand in an obvious Romantic Statement Of Intent (that probably wouldn't go anywhere for at least another thirty pages). "I can't promise you that."

Of course he was going to get hurt. How else would they get to the comfort part of the fic?

Allie took his hand, tangling their fingers together. "Tell me again why I thought leaving for school was such a good idea."

Because full scholarships to Harvard are so easy to earn.

"Because this is the best shot you're going to get," Kaidan said earnestly. "You're going to make an amazing surgeon."

Yep. That made sense.

"Saving lives. Instead of taking them." She'd never not feel guilty about the lives she'd taken (never mind they were all bad guys looking to kill her first) but this was a way to start making up for it.

"Let me know when you get started with that, okay?" Kaidan dropped her hand. Quickly. Because otherwise this might get Awkward.

Still it probably wouldn't be as awkward as it was going to get when they crossed paths after the insanity was over.

Pulling her hand back, Allie wrapped her arms around her legs and rested her chin on her knees. She couldn't let herself forget. Kaidan was honest and honorable. He deserved so much more then her.

"You should go. Finish your run."

"Right."

Kaidan cleared his throat and got up. "Right. I'll just... leave you to. Tanning."

Miho really wasn't sure how she'd gotten here. It was like there was a gap, and then she was on the island, and weirdly, she wasn't too concerned about it. She'd just decided it was a good idea to go to the beach. So here she was, on the beach.

She had no idea what to do now that she was here. Maybe wander around looking for something to stab. Yes. That sounded like it could be a good idea.

Allie was happily people watching, even if there weren't all that many people around. So of course Miho caught her attention.

Yes, there was staring.

Just then, Miho caught sight of Allie, and yes, there was also going to be staring from this side.

What, did you expect her to say something?

"It's like looking into a mirror," Allie said. "How is that possible?"

Don't worry Miho, Allie will more then likely be able to interpret every nuance of Miho's body language to understand what she's trying to say. You know, just like Stiles knows Derek's every thought just by watching his eyebrows.

How could this be? They couldn't possibly be random doubles! They were too alike!

Never mind that Miho was greyscale.

Greyscale? Pfft! That was nothing. Jeff Davis merrily drove through bigger plot holes.

"I had a twin sister once," Allie said softly. Funny how this was the first they were hearing about her. "The vampires took her when she was a baby."

Miho had been stolen from the vampires by the ninjas! Apparently! These two things had to be related! Related like...them?

"It can't be possible. There's no way I could be that lucky."

Allie, a few weeks ago you were a vampire. Now you're applying sunscreen. Anything was possible with these fans.

"I can't believe I found you."

And now Miho was hugging Allie. Because Miho hugged now. And Allie was her long-lost twin sister, zomg!

((Sorry about the disappearing act yesterday, I burned my hand and typing hurt. :( ))

Allie hugged her back. If she couldn't have her true love, at least she could have family. And hopefully Miho would understand her guilt over having killed people.

[No worries! I saw twitter & figured as much. I'm barely holding on to consciousness myself right now. So I might disappear in a bit. Long day of BBQ]

Not even rabid fans could make Miho experience this 'guilt' thing you spoke of, but Miho was sure to be very sympathetic to her beloved long-lost twin's feelings. Just as soon as she stopped hugging her, which might be a while, as befitted such an important reunion.
