The Boards, Friday Evening ... Jekyll & Hyde?

Friday the thirteenth, indeed. Tonight was supposed to be the night of the show, but Jono was facing more than a slight moral dilemma with this one. If it had been only waffles falling from the ceiling and gremlins running amok in the costumes, that would have been one thing. Hell, if his biggest problem tonight was that the costumes were still wrong after a trip to the cleaner's to complain, then he'd cope with that.

... Jekyll could probably get away with wearing the Scrooge outfit. He figured he'd divvy up the costumes for the three spirits and Marley however worked best, and there were plenty of outfits for the extras, if he really had to push it.

But no, of course there had to be people outside killing his actors and audience in the streets. Of course. Jonothon sighed, and then sent a mass-text to his cast and crew:

If you can't get to the Boards without getting hurt, DON'T TRY. I am not actually a firm believer in that 'The show must go on' adage.

And the rest... He'd play by ear. Somehow. Maybe he'd just keep the doors open for people who needed a safe place to hide from the killers outside, and if any of his performers did show up, he could get them to just do a musical revue and select scenes or something.

Bloody Friday the thirteenth.

[Open with a very moddable Boards! No psychos allowed. Well. Unless they're locals.]

Karina swept into the Boards, looking flawless and untouched, and bringing with her a gust of cold air. It was probably because it was cold outside. As she entered, she pushed her sunglasses up onto her forehead and tugged her hair out of the utilitarian pony tail she'd thrust it into that morning.

"I wouldn't have come," she informed anyone who might be listening, while combing her fingers through her hair, "but I was in town anyway."

You had your lead, Jono!

She eyed his advil and water but said nothing. Hey, headaches were probably common.

God knew she'd been getting them this week.

"I'm almost sorry I showed up then, if that was your fall back plan." Shut up, it was funny. "People had better not show up though. It's nasty out there."

"I can check if you want," Karina offered. "I mean, it's not like the show's going to happen on time or exactly as planned. If people need help getting here, if they're really wanting to get here, I can do that."

Despite totally being a normal human being who was also conspicuously unarmed.

... Maybe he wouldn't notice?

She was going to totally ignore that side-eye, yep.

"Sure," she said easily, shrugging. "It's just, I'll be going back out there anyway after this either happens or not."

She was only acting casual, Jono.

"I'm not going back to the dorms when there's people out there who need help," she argued, crossing her arms over her chest. "And I don't need an escort. If you've got time for that, go help someone who needs it because the mayor is a sad sack of crap that hasn't even tried implementing evacuation procedures and we've got Skywalker making empty threats on the radio and not actually doing anything that I've noticed. The dorms seem to be safe this time around--we should be moving everyone into them, but no, of course that's not happening. That'd apparently make too much more sense."

She glared at Jono. "I don't agree with the violence, and I don't like it, and I'm not going to carry a gun. But I sure as hell can help people blockade their homes and throw rocks and shit to distract their attackers so they can get a head start to run away before doing the same. I'm not going back to the dorms. It's criminal that no one in authority is doing anything. It's cruel and inhumane. I can't make sweeping changes but I can help a few people and I'm going to."

Karina stared at him in a long moment filled with huffy, indignant silence. But it was hard to argue with a teacher who was actually behaving like a teacher.

And she could concede to that.

“Fine,” she said, her voice clipped. “You may escort me back to the dorms.”

But not gracefully.

She had no plans to stay in the dorms anyway.

A coyote carrying a backpack in it's mouth dashed into the theatre and backstage. When it dropped the backpack there was a loud clanking. Well, she had to carry her guns along with her clothes, didn't she?

"Sure," she said flatly. "Sounds like a blast."

Karina wasn't arguing that he was doing his job, he was, but she didn't have to like it when the alternative was outing her powers.

"Dramatic, much?" Karina asked from where she was drinking coffee and sulking.

The coyote cocked an ear at her and just stared. Dramatic?

"Assuming you're a student," Karina half-explained. "The whole animal thing and the dashing backstage thing, when you really could've stopped once you hit the doors of the theatre, and the clank of what sounds like guns."

Mostly, Karina was being a brat because she was angry at Jono.

"Not that animals can use guns," she added, "so there's an uneasy logic to why you even have them when you clearly can make it around town without them."

Mercy shifted into human between one moment and the next. "Bitch much?" she said with an eye roll and turned to dig her clothes out of the bag.

You can just deal with naked Mercy while she dresses.

"That's me," she said, shifting so she didn't have to look at the naked.

Also, wow, rude. What if Jono saw?

"Of course, that's because big and blue doesn't think I can take care of myself and won't let me leave despite the fact I got here untouched." Also: clothed. "So it's nothing you did personally."
