Kitty fully intended to go to the vault site. She'd just decided to go the long way and do a quick patrol to see if there was anything that needed taking care of on the way. And sure enough, she'd run into a couple of the psychos right by the park.

Fighting them was easy enough for her, and to be honest it was kind of nice to get the occasional swarm of bad guys to keep her motivated to train every day. The problem was that she really didn't like to kill people unless she absolutely had to, and these guys weren't worth the nightmares. So it was a matter of maybe knocking them out and locking them up somewhere that she was having trouble with.
