Caritas- Tuesday

After the last day or so, Kitty was in a good enough mood (finally) that she didn't even mind that Tino had called out today, leaving her alone at the bar. She was a little on the bored side, though, meaning she'd built a small tower out of shot glasses and was trying to practice some pouring tricks.

It could have been going worse? But it also could have gone better. This was why she was practicing with water.

"Whiskey," Cade said, sliding into a seat as soon as the place open. "A lot of whiskey."

"Uh oh. Bad day?" she asked, getting a glass.

"You have no karking idea," Cade said. "Ugh."

"Want to talk about it?" she asked, and made sure the bottle was left on the bar when she slid Cade his drink.

"Not really," Cade said. "Let's just say that I got into a fight with a couple people trying to kill me and that wasn't the worst part of the last two days."

Kitty paused.

"Okay, that's not quite what I was expecting," she said. "You okay?"

Cade shrugged. "They busted up my nose, but that just gives it character, right?"

"The look works. But you should probably get that checked out," she advised.

"Eh," Cade said. "After the whiskey."

"I definitely can't fault your priorities, either," she said. "Everything at least solved now? I'm not going to end up sending you back out there to get attacked?"

As she got older, Kitty just became like everyone's mom.

"It's all fine out there now," Cade said. "Any fight I get into will be one I pick myself."

Because Cade made healthy choices.

"Please don't do that. If only because I don't want to get sued for overserving a minor." Would that work? Probably not.

"Oh, I won't in the bar," Cade said. "It's too cold for a dunk in the water."

Are you reassured yet, Kitty? No?

"That's... not really comforting," she said.

"Have a drink with me," Cade said. "It'll help!"

Not really.

"I'm on the clock. How 'bout I stick to water and make sure you can get home okay," Kitty said.

"I'm still up at the dorms," Cade said, "which are...thataway, up about a hundred steps."

"That's easy," she assured him.

Because she could phase through the stairs.

"Exactly," said Cade, holding out his empty glass. "Another please."

She'd pour him another glass because that was his second, but she was putting out a glass of water, too.

See, everyone's mom.

Cade arched up an eyebrow. "Did my grandparents get to you or something?"

"Nope. I'm just a responsible bar manager," Kitty said.

"I haven't met many of those," Cade admitted.

Pretty late, Bruce walked in with his tie loosened, his shirt ruffled, and a stagger in his step. It certainly looked like somebody had done some partying somewhere already.

"Hi, Kitty. Any specials tonight?" Bruce asked as he took a seat at the bar.

"That depends. How much did you have before?"

See. Everybody's mom.

"About two drinks shy of enough," Bruce promised. "But because I like you so much, I'll only have one drink and pay you for it twice."

"How about a beer and a glass of water so I don't feel bad about sending you home later?" She was sometimes so glad they didn't have cars here.

"You drive a hard bargain, Kitty, but I'll take it," Bruce said.

Kitty got the water first, setting it in front of him. "Celebrating or drowning your sorrows?"

"Getting some things out of my system before I'm responsible for the education of minors," Bruce said, making a face at the water.

"Oh, I know that kind of thing well." That's when she had her 'let me wear something really slutty before one of my students shows up at the bar' thing. "What are you teaching?

"Community service," Bruce said. "The kind you volunteer for, not the kind a court mandates."

"I'd hope you meant the volunteer kind." Though at this school... "This isn't an excuse to just put them to work for you, is it?"

No judging, if it was.

"Of course not," Bruce said before taking a sip of his water. "But I'm only sticking around another couple months, and I want to make sure I have a few people willing to keep reaching out to help people outside Fandom."

"But if any of them want to keep the Foundation's offices running when I am gone, I won't object."

"That's reasoning I can definitely get behind," Kitty said, setting his beer out. "Nothing wrong with a recruiting tool."

"As long as none of my students call me a recruiting tool, I'll consider it a successful session," Bruce joked. And then laughed way harder at his own joke than was at all deserved.

"You keep on drinking that water, Bruce," Kitty said, even though she laughed.

"Will do," Bruce said, saluting with his left hand before taking another drink.

Already done with all my work, woo.
