It had been one of those weeks. The sort that went on forever while at the same time rushing by in a blur, and between assassination attempts and actually having Warren's back on something for several days straight, Jono was welcoming his day at the Groovy Tunes with open arms. Paperwork? Wonderful stuff, wasn't it? It involved attempted murder in absolutely zero sense of the word, and that was something that he could get behind today.

The music was actually playing at an acceptable level and everything. Jonothon would have been down at the school grounds, but he had faith that Karla could go and stand awkwardly at the picnic without getting herself killed for one afternoon.

He was curious, and the story behind it seemed like it might be more interesting than the stakeout itself was.

A con man. Swindled a friend of a friend and now we're waiting for him to show up so we can arrest him.

Ah, swindlers. No patience for that ilk at all. Hopefully you're not stuck sitting out there bored for much longer. Lord knows there are less mind-numbing ways to spend a Saturday, after all.

You're asking me to lie? I'm working, on the island. Paperwork. Karla, meanwhile, is at the welcome picnic, doing lord only knows what. Though I suppose being around here beats Glacia at the moment.

Nothing against Glacia, of course, but the tension there was going to drive him mad at this rate.

It is. Thank you, luv. Any idea when you're planning on going? Things have been a little iffy in Glacia lately, I'll have to make certain Julian and Morton are well-prepared for my absence, even if it is only for a day or two.

Yeees. That seemed like a good way to segue into that.

This coming week, if that's okay? Why would juian and morton need to know? What's wrong?

Oh, right. Crap. Jono pinched the bridge of his nose as he winced. Well, Karla could hardly keep this from everybody forever, could she?

This coming week should be fine, yes. Julian and Morton are on high alert. Somebody tried to kill Karla several days ago -- She's fine! Raven teleported her out and healed her, no serious damage done.

You were SO lucky you can't talk, Jono or Momoko would be calling you RIGHT THIS MINUTE! As it was it took a few minutes for Momoko to be able to compose an actual legible text.

Hobart?

Yes it took ten minutes to be able to type that, hush. A few days ago, she'd been bored and trolling the internet while HER FRIEND WAS ALMOST KILLED.

Really, Jono was impressed that she'd remembered that he couldn't talk. After news like that, there were even odds that he would have forgotten, himself.

We're all thinking it, but we're all afraid to say it. Truth of the matter is, all of the usable evidence washed away down the River Sid, and the rest is... dead. Not even demon dead. We have nobody to interrogate. But if we assume it's Hobart and there's somebody else...

Momomoko nodded.

Open mind is good plan. But Blood need to be organized to do anything. you have investigated house and made sure everyone is clean right? Any new legisaltion to be angry about?

[furnaceface]

The estate's been scoured from top to bottom, and aside from the usual grumblings people have about giving actual basic human rights to landens, there's nothing especially earth-shattering, no. That doesn't mean much, though. For every three people that support Karla, there's another one that doesn't care for her or doesn't know what to make of her yet.

Jono furrowed his brow a little, and then shook his head. He hated this, not having been there, not knowing where to begin looking for the culprit that hadn't already been tried.

It was a sabotaged carriage. Done with Craft, while it was parked in town. No witnesses. Or at least none that are willing to speak up or who recognized the people nearest to the coach during that time frame.

Momoko absorbed that for a while. She was going to have to re-scour her notes on Protocol but she seemed to remember there being rules about sharing information like this. Which meant that either no one did know anything or the threat they were under was just that great.

Or they were Landens.

Hmm...

You checked landens, yes? as witnesses or perps? Blood ignore them easily.

Landens would've been too conspicuous in that part of Sidra, I think. Even if they weren't, it was Craft sabotage. The sort of Blood that want Karla dead wouldn't work with a landen to provide it. We're not ruling it out, granted, but it was unlikely.

A moment later, he added;

Plus the pack that showed up to try to finish the job were all landen-hating bigots wearing Blood Jewels. According to Morton there were some uncouth comments about Karla's sexual preferences made before they were all killed.

Momoko had been about to remind him that Craft traps existed, but the second text had her erasing that and replacing it with:

I want to be there now, investigating. So frustrating.

Well, the traps certainly existed, but the sort that existed specifically to make a coach malfunction and speed wildly out of control probably weren't exactly available to landens wandering around at market.

It is terribly frustrating. We're doing the best we can, though. And measures have been taken to avoid Death By Coach in the future.

See? Momo didn't have specifics so she couldn't even help brainstorm!

I'm not sure. She's been asking us for the past few days not to spread word around too much outside of Glacia. I don't think she's in the mood to be fussed over.

So, naturally, here he was, giving Momoko a reason to fuss. Jono was a good member of the First Circle that way!

We can meet somewhere in Sidra, if it's convenient. Doesn't have to be at the estate, even.

Wednesday? There's a Portal sale... We're hoping to get this done soon and that will get me back in time to move.

Wednesday. Wednesday is perfect for me, luv. We can coordinate the time and whatnot once you've got your portal booked, then?

And they could do what needed to be done and go over whatever there was to try to piece together from there.

Fill her in if you must, luv. It'll give you something to talk about while you wait for your mark to do something interesting.

And it would give him a chance to breathe, at least figuratively, while someone else freaked out over Karla for a bit.
