Next week would be easier with a normal schedule set in place, but in the last couple days Kitty had gone from radio to teaching class in Fandom straight over to the Xavier School and then a delayed portal meant she was coming directly to Caritas to at least put in a couple hours at this job. Her overnight bag was behind the bar, and she was coming up with new and interesting ways to call herself a crazy person.

She sent a quick text and then settled in to work even though she didn't really want to do anything, and got to hear all about the zombies' upcoming third CD from Tino. Apparently they were trying to put out albums like they were the Beatles.

Clint hadn't been worried about Kitty, except for how he'd totally been worried because it seemed like every time Kitty went home, terrible shit went down. So, he was really relieved by her message and headed for Caritas as soon as he saw it. "Hey. How was your trip?" he asked, taking a seat at the bar.

"Oh, this whole experience is gonna be interesting," Kitty said. "Hello."

"Bad interesting or... you know, genuinely interesting?" Clint asked.

"I'm not sure yet," Kitty admitted, leaning on the bar. "I'm on a team with Emma, who opened the semester with a 'humans will always hate you' speech including Danger Room Sentinels, and I was woken up at ungodly o'clock by Scott and Logan trying to kill each other on the front lawn. But the kids seem maybe great."

Clint facepalmed a little and gave Kitty a sympathetic look. "Maybe let Scott and Logan kill each other and just focus on the kids? I mean, that's why you're there."

"They're part of my team," Kitty said, shrugging. "Which Scott had a whole speech about this morning, too. If we're going to work together we should probably stop beating on each other. And Emma can stop with her bitchy little comments."

Kitty had totally started it.

"Just remember, you'll always be hotter than Emma," Clint said. "At least the kids might be something to look forward to?"

"Yeah. There are so many I don't know yet," she said. "It's so weird. Last time I was there I was a student, and now the only people I know are on the faculty."

"I guess it's a good sign, that generations of mutants keep making it to the school?" Clint suggested. "It also means you're a grownup, sorry."

"At least I've got plenty of people around to call me 'Kitten' when I start feeling too adult." No lie, that was kind of reassuring.

Clint bit his lip for a moment, trying to imagine that. "Can I call you that too, or is it a mutant only thing?" he asked, barely keeping from laughing.

"You can if you don't laugh about it," Kitty said. "You try going through life named Kitty without picking up even cutesier nicknames."

"I'm not laughing at you. I'm just... laughing in general," he said. "Does Logan call you that? I'm trying to picture it and my brain can't make it happen."

"...Sometimes. He's like my big brother/dad, depending on the situation, he's got a bunch of nicknames for me."

Like 'punkin.' And 'half pint.'

Seriously.

"Aww, that's pretty adorable," Clint said. "I knew he was a big softie under those claws."

"To some of us. ...Okay probably just me and Jubilee," Kitty said thoughtfully. "Also please never call a guy with adamant iin claws a softie to his face."

I have no work to dooooooo.
