Caritas- Tuesday

Today at Caritas, Tino was spending the night filming the zombies for what he claimed was a demo tape. For a reality show. That they were going to shop around to MTV.

Yeah.

Kitty wasn't asking, and was instead going to mind her own business and do her job, and no Tino, she was not going to hand out waivers to customers to use their likenesses on camera.

"What's got into them this time?" Éponine asked, depositing herself unceremoniously onto a barstool. It could have been a rhetorical question, given that the zombies (and Tino) were prone to enough inexplicable quirks that it was probably better not to ask, but no, she was actually curious.

"Apparently they're trying to get on a reality show," Kitty said, and shrugged. "I don't even know."

"They've gotten bored with trying to sell their music?" Éponine guessed, and idly traced a fingertip in erratic patterns on the bar. "S'pose they think this might go better for them."

She didn't say it, but her tone certainly implied a sarcastic "Aww, optimism, isn't that cute" comment.

"I think they're probably trying to use MTV as a platform for their music, or something," Kitty said. "Bless their rotted little hearts, they're trying."

It took her a moment or two to follow that, and you could tell when she arrived at the same conclusion by the exclamation of "Oh!" and then a laugh.

"All right, yes, that's clever," Éponine conceded, "or it would be if it worked."

Which she had her doubts about.

Then again, MTV these days.

"I'm crossing my fingers for them?" Kitty said, not really sure about that. "So how are you doing?"

"Well enough," said Éponine, shrugging. "D'you have any interesting people to meet over the weekend?"

She, personally, had hidden all weekend just in case.

"No one showed up for me, but Clint's brother was in town, and I was here Friday night so I got to meet a bunch of other people's interesting people," she said. "How about you?"

"No, no visitors for me!" Éponine laughed again, partly out of sincere relief that she hadn't had an unpleasant surprise from her father or Montparnasse, and partly to pretend she wasn't vaguely disappointed that Azelma hadn't found a way to follow her here. (Only vaguely; Azelma had never been much for taking initiative.) "And that's just as well for everyone. Seems, from the radio, it was a bit of an unpleasant time all around."

And really, why add to that.

"Seriously, I think maybe five people had a good time," Kitty said. "I feel like yesterday should have had a Fandom-flood of puppies to make up for it."

Which would have been adorable.

"It owes us, do you think? You may be on to it there," Éponine agreed. "It owes us a fortune by now, and not a small one. Though, imagine if it decided to pay us back for every one of these weekends all at once!"

No, really, imagine it. Avalanche of puppies.

"That would be fantastic and I need it to happen."

She was totally serious.

Which was why Éponine was staring at her.

Well. More than she usually tended to stare at things.

"You don't think that would be a few too many dogs?"

Then again, it was Fandom, so maybe pet dander wouldn't be a thing.

"One time the island had a ton of balls that if you opened them up, had puppies and kittens inside. It was the best invasion we're ever gonna have," Kitty said.

Okay, never mind the pet dander concerns. Éponine opened her mouth, shut it again, then blurted out, "Well now, I'm sorry I missed that one!"

"We'll wish really hard and hope the island does it again!"

Still totally serious.

Yes, which was what had Éponine concerned.

"Ought to be careful about saying things like that around this place. God knows, they might be angry next time 'round," she remarked. Oh, hi, there was that cynical streak again.

"Awww, how cute would angry puppies be? I'm sorry, I'm seven years old," Kitty said.

"That's likely to happen on another one of these weekends, isn't it?" Éponine teased. "I s'pose they'd be cute enough, at least until they start to bite. I shouldn't like to get gnawed to death by hundreds of tiny puppies, though it likely wouldn't be the worst way, if I had to choose."

"...I'm just really stuck on thinking that would be adorable." Maybe she was ovulating.

"Well," Éponine said, crossing her arms and pretending to look exasperated, "don't expect me to come along and chase them all away from you if it ever happens."

Except she probably would.

"Not a problem. Puppies get cuddled anyway," Kitty assured her.

"You are very odd," Éponine told her.

Not that this was a bad thing, but coming from her it was pretty rich.
