Between her talk with Clint on Sunday and reading through finals yesterday and wanting to hug her class, Kitty was in a really good mood today.

And then she got in to work and found that the heater was a) on and b) broken to stay on. She hadn't been able to fix it herself so she was waiting for someone to come out and do that. Until then, she'd be here in a tank top and being really glad she didn't go with the leather pants today, the doors would be open, and the zombies were nowhere around because ew.

It's not that Allie had been anti-social since the whole Leland Gaunt thing. She'd just sort of been accidentally on purpose avoiding people. Hopefully Kitty wouldn't hold it against her.

"Are you trying to pretend it's August?" Allie asked as she took a seat at the bar.

"Ugghhh the heater broke," Kitty ~~whined~~ whined. "Supposedly a guy's supposed to be out later but 'later' isn't now enough."

"At least you can make yourself a cold drink in meantime? Something fruity with an umbrella?" said the vampire that didn't feel the heat.

"Don't tell anybody this, but alcohol's dehydrating," Kitty said. "So it's water for me since I need to stay here until the guy shows. So. How're you doing?"

"My lips are sealed," Allie promised. "As for me? I went a little crazy for a while. But I'm all better now. You know, the guy with the store and not so good intentions? Yeah, I was dumb enough to fall for it." Most of her anger at being dumb enough to be taken in was gone. Now Allie was mostly sheepish and embarrassed.

Kitty winced. "Oh, no. You're really okay now?"

"I was worn out for a few days which was weird, but now I'm just annoyed with myself for falling for his bullshit," she shrugged.

"It happens to the best of us," Kitty told her. "Seriously, this sort of thing happens all the time back home. You got through it, and that's what's important."

"That, and the fact that the only person that got hurt was someone that could take it. Nick was the one who got me to break the charm," Allie explained so that Kitty would understand. "Unfortunately a few punches were thrown before we got to that point. I feel like I owe him a million drinks to make up for it."

"I'm going to guess it'd be appreciated, but not necessary," Kitty smiled. "And hey, who hasn't thrown a punch at one of their best friends?"

Her tone was joking, but she'd totally done it.

"Given this island probably not all that many people," she said with a small laugh. "I take it you made it through that mess without any problems?"

"Clint and I were out of town," Kitty admitted. "I'd just gone through the wringer back home, so I needed a break before I had another spring where I just finally snapped."

"Oh crap. That's not good. Are you okay? What happened?" Allie would happily provide a listening ear.

"I'm fine," Kitty said with a wave of her hand. "Uh, it turns out my old teacher knew our Danger Room was sentient and had her keep trying to kill us as training, only she killed one of our students, kicked our asses, and then we had to go to the site of a mutant holocaust in order to beat her."

You know, the usual.

"You are way too matter of fact about that." Which probably meant Kitty had dealt with similar situations way too often. "That's not a bad thing. Just...wow."

"I've dealt with comparable or worse in the past," Kitty admitted. "It helps that I've had some time to move past it. Then it's on to the next crisis."

"It'd be nice if we could get a couple of weeks off. I did at least, these last two weekends. How about you? Any visitors?" Allie asked.

"My daughter with Clint showed up again. I'm still in Lexi withdrawal," Kitty admitted. "You didn't have anyone show?"

"No kids. But I did call Nick and tell him that a little girl calling me mom and asking to play with daddy's goggles turned up," she said with a grin. "It was worth it just to listen to him flail for a few minutes."

Allie sobered a little thinking of the previous weekend. "My mom turned up the last time this happened. It would have been nice to see her again, but I guess we got what closure we needed. I half wanted Zeke to show up. But maybe it's better he didn't. What could I say to him? Sorry I got you killed?"

"It's tough. I'm sure in a weekend you could figure out something, or whether you need to say anything at all, but I can't imagine that's an easy situation," Kitty said. Her only experience was with people who were only supposed to be dead.

"Probably not. But I guess I should be happy I didn't have to find out."

Maybe, maybe not. She was still deciding.

"You can be. And who knows, it might happen next time," Kitty pointed out.

That was a thought....

"Another two years? I'm not sure I'm used to thinking that far in advance."

"Well, who knows if it'll be two years?" Kitty said. "But you have the luxury of thinking ahead, which is cool."

"True enough. Which means I'll hopefully be around to meet your daughter at some point." Because it was nicer to think of happier things.

[Zzzzz.....]

"You probably will. Because that girl had better keep showing up until she exists." What.

[Night!]

I'm done with all my work! Sigh.
