Caritas- Tuesday

Kitty was finally feeling better about things than she had in weeks, and while she had been in to do administrative type work, tonight was her first night back behind the bar after vacation. It felt kind of good to be doing something normal again.

Well, relatively normal. If anyone wanted a shot, they were going to have to wait because Tino had appropriated all the shot glasses to build a castle out of them on the bar. It was kind of an impressive castle, actually.

Today was totally normal, which was why Clint was visiting Kitty at the bar, although he got distracted by Tino before he could sit down. "You're all a little bored, huh?"

"He is. I'm entertained by watching him. I should probably give him more work but then I'll probably have to take the castle down," Kitty said, smiling. "Hi."

"I'll just have to give you all the work then," Clint said, sitting down. "Can I get a beer?"

"Sure," she said, turning around to get it. "Did you just feel like getting out of the house?"

"Something like that, yeah," Clint said with a shrug. "I wanted to see how you're doing back in the real world."

"Much better," Kitty admitted, sliding his drink over. "And not especially dreading New York. I guess the trip was a good idea."

Or more accurately, the talk at the end of it.

"See? I have good ideas way more often than anyone gives me credit for," Clint said with a smirk. He took a sip of his beer and tried to look calm and normal. "I'm glad the trip helped."

"Me too. Also, you have amazing ideas, at least when it comes to me, the vast majority of the time," Kitty teased.

"You shouldn't say things like that, or you're going to make me think all my ideas about us are good ones," Clint said.

"Well, you haven't been wrong yet," Kitty said thoughtfully. "In three years, that's a pretty good track record."

"It has been a good number of years, hasn't it? And you're still putting up with me. Some folks back home think you're a saint," Clint said, laughing.

"I wouldn't go that far," she grinned. "You're not nearly as hard to put up with as you think you are."

Clint smiled and shifted a little on his stool. "Does that mean you want to keep putting up with me?"

"You know I do," she said. "You're pretty much stuck with me."

"I certainly hope so, although I don't see it as being stuck," Clint said. "It's more of a privilege. I think the whole Wanda thing made me realize that."

"I guess that whole mess was at least good for giving perspective," Kitty said slowly. She'd realized the same thing, even if it was wrapped up in a lot of terrible stuff.

"Yeah. Remember when I said I wasn't affected too much by what happened? I might not have been entirely truthful," Clint admitted.

Now Kitty was starting to get a slightly nervous feeling about this. "How so?"

"I know I've been acting like I haven't been thinking about what things were like in Wanda's make-believe universe, but I have," Clint said. "We were really happy. And, uh, I noticed that when things were normal, you didn't ditch the ring."

"Yeah," she said, a little shyly. "It didn't feel right to leave it behind... I was kind of hoping you didn't notice."

"I notice everything, remember?" Clint said, smiling softly. "It, uh, looked nice on you. So nice that... well, I thought maybe I should get you some jewelry for real."

So that nervous feeling was not going away now.

"Are you doing what I think you're doing?" she asked.

If he was going to give her a necklace, or something, she was gonna smack him.

"Um. Maybe? Considering how much I thought about this, you'd think I'd have decided whether or not to do the knee thing," Clint said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a box. It really was a miracle that she wanted to put up with him.

Well, as it turned out Kitty was going to be one of those people who cried when this happened. "Answer's going to be the same either way oh my god."

Clint was really hoping those were happy tears, and he settled for leaning over the bar and showing her the ring. "I don't want you to think I'm doing this because I feel like I have to, or because the other versions of us did this. I've been thinking about it since the first time Lexi showed up because... well, I love you. So, will you marry me?"

"Yes," she said, like immediately, leaning partly through the bar to kiss him. Just in case the 'yes' wasn't enough of a yes.

That was definitely convincing, and Clint kissed her back with a pleased noise, trying to wrap his brain around the fact that he'd asked and she said yes and oh god this was real now.

Kitty was having some trouble with that part herself, which was why when she pulled back she said, "I did actually say yes, right? I didn't forget that part? It's kind of important."

"You did. I think you have to put the ring on too," Clint said.

"I'd rather you did it for me," Kitty decided.

Clint grinned and pulled the ring out of the box, taking Kitty's hand and slipping it on. "Okay, that's way better than just having the memory of doing it."

"Way better," she agreed, staring at her hand for a moment. "Wow. How long... You were really thinking about it all this time?"

"Not at strongly as I've been thinking about it for the past month," Clint said. "But I mean, we've talked about Lexi like she's going to be real for a while, and you've always said you see this working out and you moved in with me and... it's been a recurring thought, yeah."

"I am so glad for all those things," Kitty grinned. "This feels unreal."

"I know. Even though I knew you'd probably say yes, I still worried you wouldn't, you know?" Clint said.

"There was no way I was going to say no," Kitty told him. "Unless it was an alternate universe thing, or I wasn't me, or Fandom threw Opposite Day at us."

"That would have been really awkward," Clint teased, going in for another kiss. "Did I mention that I love you? Because I do."

"I love you too," she said, kissing him back. "Like, to a ridiculous degree. You're going to be my husband."

"Oh man we're going to be husband and wife. For real." Clint laughed. "I'm sure this will seem okay in a while but... wow."

"It's so weird, but in the best way," she said. "Technically you're not my boyfriend anymore."

"Ooh, now we get to call each other fiances, like it's all fancy," Clint said. "I guess it is kind of fancy, or serious at least. It's sinking in more."

"You've had more time to get used to it," Kitty said. "I'm still stuck on 'oh my god we're getting married.'"

"I guess you're going to have to break out those spreadsheets after all. With my help," Clint said. "I won't just--I'll help and all, as much as you want me to."

"Good," she said. "It's going to be our wedding, we should both be a part of it."

So weird.

I brought all the alcohol from my apartment to work to give away and was told it was wrong for me to not bring shot glasses for taste testing.
